In a closed door meeting with 10 Republican senators on Thursday, Trump derided Senator Elizabeth Warren as “Pocahontas,” a term he used often during the campaign. He also claimed that he lost New Hampshire because thousands of Massachusetts residents were bused to New Hampshire to vote illegally.
According to Politico, there was an embarrassed silence as Trump went into his rant about voter fraud.
Anyone who expects Trump to “pivot” and act “presidential” should abandon that dream.
Time to contribute to the ACLU, People for the American Way, immigrant rights groups, and any other groups protecting civil liberties. And of course, the Network for Public Education, which fights against the privatization of public schools.

Because he has no filter, he is going to self-destruct. He’s already incriminated himself by referrring to his travel ban executive order as a “Muslim Ban.” Just can’t help himself. His staff are also doing the same stuff–Conway urging people to buy products, etc. These mistakes are so telling. And yet, we can’t seem to get him out of office despite the evidence of his wrongdoings stacking up.

We all need some humor. Every day there is a story about Trump’s debasing behavior. I’m wearing out.
This comes from the New Yorker:
NEW HEALTH-CARE PLANS AVAILABLE UNDER TRUMP
By Sam Weiner February 10, 2017
PLATINUM
For a monthly premium of two hundred and fifty thousand dollars, this plan gives you prime access to all health-care options—no referrals or medical ailments required! If you’d like an MRI just for the fun of it, you’ll be slid into the very next available magnetic scanning tube. All prescription medication is free, plus the pharmacist has to say, “I love you; you are my moral superior,” when you pick it up.
GOLD
The same as the Platinum Plan, but only available to people who own a gold mine.
SILVER
For the incredible price of just $49.99 a month, you’ll receive a five-hundred-millilitre bottle of an unbelievable liquid miracle cure containing nanoparticle colloidal silver! Just one tablespoon daily will boost immune-system strength, make skin look decades younger, and improve your performance in the boardroom and the bedroom.*
*A study conducted by the Colloidal Silver Foundation of Orlando confirms colloidal silver’s effectiveness. Patient Todd S. reported, “After I started taking colloidal silver, my necrotizing fasciitis cleared up and my blood has skyrocketed in value because of all the silver in it!”
BRONZE
You can see any doctor in your network for only a ten-dollar co-pay. Your deductible is forty million dollars.
CADILLAC
A man in a top hat will throw a crumpled-up hundred-dollar bill at you if he hits you with his Cadillac. (Not to be confused with the ROLLS ROYCE plan, in which your decrepit body will be rolled up into a carpet and sold to a man named Royce.)
TURQUOISE
Only when your lesions turns this color will you be allowed to see a doctor.
REASONABLY AFFORDABLE OPTION
This plan features small co-pays and a low deductible, and allows you to see out-of-network specialists for the in-network price with just a single referral. This shockingly fair option is listed here because decades of social patterning have taught poor people to skip the top half of any list ordered by price.
WOMEN’S EMERGENCY PLAN
If you’re a woman who needs quick and compassionate help with family planning or contraception, this taxpayer-funded plan allows you to see any in-network priest.
BAUXITE
Only covers catastrophic injuries. Only lets you visit a veterinarian.
FELDSPAR
No health care will be provided to you, but nurses will remind any living relatives to mourn you.
AMETHYST
If you often require medical assistance but can’t afford to pay a lot, this plan lets you see—whenever, wherever, and however often you need—a photograph of a doctor. (You will need prior authorization if you prefer to look at a picture of a dog wearing a stethoscope.)
GRANITE
Free pickup of your carcass from the gutter after your death.
GRANITE+
Includes all the features of the Granite Plan, plus a guarantee that you’ll be buried in your own grave.
DIAMOND
You pay nothing up front. You pay nothing later. You receive the highest quality medical care available. No matter what happens to you, you will never die. However, as the centuries pass, you will discover that immortality has its own price.
SINGLE-PAYER
A single payer covers the entire cost of your health care. The single payer is you.

I understood that many Senators were present. Time for them to speak truth to power. We are going down a dangerous path in America. Democrats must lead in a credible way–and shame their Republican colleagues to action! The dangers are genuine!

Failed senator Scotty Brown started that in MA. His “troops” would dress up and carry tomahawks. In my city there was a 4 story mural painted on the side of a building “Vote for the Colonel not the Indian”. We discussed this at the time on Diane’s blog because I remember Bob Shepherd’s response.
When Martha Coakley was running in MA someone in the crowd would always yell “rape her” (like the did to Dukakis about the Willie Horton insults ) she was singled out because of her gender and her work in the law. They did that to HRC — her trial work and Elizabeth’s trial work where they had to proceed as part of a trial was held against them; but also their gender. At lest John Kerry told them to “rein in your troops” when the attacks started on Martha. It has just gotten worse now because trump stands at the podium and gives them permission. We have seen this in the strategies of those opposed to Planned Parenthood clinics; they stand at a podium and then the “crazy” who is most impulsive will go and shoot up a clinic and murder the staff or doctors.
When they yelled “hang him” at Obama I wrote to the Governor of FL (where it happened in a Sarah Palin rally) and the governor’s office actually assigned an aide to respond in an email. But not in theTrump era.. not with Baker/Brady/Trump because brute force and brutalizing your opponent through rape is what they demand because Trump says it is ok. There was an old baseball motto from Evers to Tinker to Chance and I see Brady and Baker tossing the ball to Trump — or at least Baker won’t stand up to trump because he is saying he needs the federal money (he is quite familiar with Pay To Pay).
BAKER DOES NOTHING ; SAYS NOTHING
I participated in the get out the vote in NH because our Haverhill office sent people in there every day during the campaign. We made phone calls, we knocked on doors; if they “Bussed” people it was only to get more door bell ringers…. I observed the voting in my city in 2 schools and one even had to hand count til midnight. Therewas no fraud. Only 25% of the people (like Brady ) and Baker support TRUMP’s vicious , horrendous policies. Our city clerk is a member of the League of Women Voters and she will substantiate my opinion and I observed the process. I know yesterday people thought Devos was mis-treated but when I look around it has been going on for some time and it has gotten worse under trumps. Some of this I put on the governor’s contact page .. Tell Governor Baker to stand up to trump (instead he will be first in line to grab for the Devos money.) When Race to the Top passed out grant money, the former commissioner of ed in TX said “we don’t want any”.. and I admire him for that stance now looking back on what happened under Duncan. Strong determination is necessary with Devos in there but if you have a republican governor watch out.

We older war horse activists are leading much the same life these days, Jean.
What you describe is pretty much a mirror image of my life. It is only a week since I started a local chapter of RESIST and I find that most people are so angry about Trump and the portent of a police state, but feel so hopeless about our ability to do anything about it all. Most who joined say they never participated in protest groups before but are so frightened and felt they must do something. They ask why the Dems are not speaking out more, and why Repubs can sit quietly and let this ‘so called’ president destroy America and terrorize us.
Meanwhile, in only days of doing Tea Party research to counter their members who are attempting to infiltrate RESIST and all other groups to counter this crazed new fascistic government, i learned there are over 90,000 active whacko Tea Party groups which have been actively fighting against us all over the US for over a decade…the are the rebirth of the John Birch Society.
In my RESIST group of 65 people, I recognized three women who have listed that they are members of Tea Party, of Christian Patriots, and other groups with Patriots in the name. Since this is Meetup, I am able to delete their membership…but people are joining rapidly, and although I have asked simple questions to try to validate their agenda, many refuse to even give a few words of explanation. Organizing these days is far different than when I was young in the 1960s and battling for civil rights. Thanks to the internet at least we can sometimes identify the ‘enemy’ and use learned Art of War skills to sidestep, for head on confrontation is worthless.
This has become a larger endeavor than I imagined only a few days ago, and I see the need to continually ‘vet’ for these really violent trolls who want to intimidate all others…they have found their home at last with ‘the Drumpf’ and his group.
So here we go again with their screaming down of speakers, with their shredding of democratic action to RESIST. These people have the mentality and the leadership of those Germans in 1932 led by Hitler and Goerring. It is extremely upsetting to once again be in a world filled with hate and fear…and DRUMPF is determined to keep us all very afraid.

Most who joined say they never participated in protest groups before ” one woman who read here emailed me from TX and said this is the first act of civil disobedience she has participated in. We have 3 or 4 groups in the city and then additional groups in “Valley” … I never considered myself a “joiner” but I want to participate with these individuals and we seem to be like-minded. I haven’t picked out any trolls yet but then I am not in a leadership position as you are. One woman asked me to be leader of the events committee and another asked if I would run for office of League of Women Voters — but I tell them my energy is best spent being the “hands and feet” and I will help in any way I can. My nephew is 60 and he and I have been talking about his first acts of civil disobedience which took place around the time of Kent State so I am proud of him for taking an active role early on. We are trying to bring more young people into our city activities. We have a weekly “news item” now that goes out and we should have a website within 3 weeks — all based in my city which is thought of as “red” territory. I think I mentioned that Lawrence (our neighbor ) is a sanctuary city and the churches and groups in my city are working on the mayor and city council.

Trump continues to look foolish when he get stuck on one issue or perception and perseverates. He did it with the beauty queen during the election. Now he is convinced of a conspiracy of voter fraud. Warren pushes his buttons can be a weapon against Trump. So sad, he has to personalize everything.

the schools are broken.. let’s destroy them.. and let’s get rid of school committees; the journalists are all “bad” so we will keep them away and lock them out of the press conferences/ The judges (well you know what he calls them) There is a pattern here…
“Volksgerichtshof was a Sondergericht (“special court”) of Nazi Germany, set up outside the operations of the constitutional frame of law.
The court was established in 1934 by order of Nazi leader Adolf Hitler, in response to his dissatisfaction at the outcome of the Reichstag fire trial, in which all but one of the defendants was acquitted. The court had jurisdiction over a rather broad array of “political offenses”, which included crimes like black marketeering, work slowdowns, defeatism, and treason against the Third Reich. These crimes were viewed by the court as Wehrkraftzersetzung (“disintegration of defensive capability”) and were accordingly punished severely; the death penalty was meted out in numerous cases.
disintegration of defensive capability
Defensive capability. That could easily be code for “border controls” or visa versa.”
so watch for trump to take his own bodyguards and “police” and build a separate court system. … those individuals in the oval office are well “schooled” in these tactics and they are laying the ground work by attacking the judges .

Of course, if Ms. Warren is in fact “Pocahontas,” then Trump, his entire cabinet, & for that matter, most of us, are illegal immigrants.

Yes, Lenny.
The early settlers from Europe, drove the Native American Indians off the land and rationalized their slaughter or them, calling them savages, with the theory of Manifest Destiny.
And now Drumpf and Tillerson and Exxon Mobil are determined to drive them once again off their land by poisoning their water using the Standing Rock Dakota pipeline. These oil barons would rather impose their power and murder Indians, than redirect their oil pipeline which they did when the White citizens of Bismark refused them permission to defile their city.
Anybody think we are not a nation led by fascist oligarchs?

Trump is doing it because it worked with Hillary. The idea is to convince one segment of the people who might vote for a Democrat that the Democrat is corrupt.
It worked with great success with gullible voters who voted for Jill Stein or sat out the campaign. It worked with great success with gullible voters who voted for Hillary while still repeating the right wing talking points about how corrupt she is but they’d vote for her as the lesser of two evils. Anyone who didn’t see this coming for Warren or thought that “if only Bernie had run” he would not have been the target of a similar attack are as naive as the Jews in 1930s Germany who thought Hitler was just exaggerating.
Can you imagine how great it will be when the media endorses Warren “despite her misleading claims about being Native American to promote her own career”? Can you imagine how great it will be when some Democrats say ‘I’m voting for Warren despite her lies about being Native American because at least she’s a little better than the alternative”.
That’s sure to advance the progressive agenda with the voters who aren’t paying attention. “Wow, even the Democrats know that Sen. Warren lied about being Native American, she must be pretty bad, maybe I’ll vote for some 3rd party candidate instead”.
And the Republicans will keep doing it because they are enabled by naive progressives who believe any candidate less than perfect is obviously corrupt and until they find that perfect candidate (Jill Stein — who of course, isn’t being smeared by right wing trolls just like Bernie Sanders was not because not yet smearing them still played into the right wing’s goals).
I sure hope this does not work with Warren. I’m not holding my breath.

When I started reading this in the Times today, I felt like give me a break , is this the best they can come up with. A very confused person here since she was an infant who voted illegally Than I got to the last paragraph and I have to admit I took some sadistic satisfaction in this irony before I started to feel empathy again. You can not make this up.

tiny steps, but progress … “thanks to all those who urged the Haverhill City Council and our Mayor to issue a press statement opposing the ban. Our city leaders responded positively to this request and issued a joint statement backing Attorney General Healey’s suit against the ban (published press release signed by 7 of 9 Councilors — http://www.whav.net/cms/haverhill-city-leadership-backs-ags-suit-against-trump/).” Maura Healey is a strong A.G. and she works with other democrat AGs … we’ve had several strong women in that capacity now and our state auditor is on the “charter school” audits.. She said the State DESE (board) has not identified and defined “innovations” in order to old the charter schools accountable to their statutory goals.
(as far as sanctuary city we are still working on that one but Lawrence next to us is already a sanctuary city; mayor says we might lose federal funds so they are hemming and hawing on that one).
