The Trump family’s greed and total lack of class never seems to hit bottom.
In the latest episode, Melania Trump is suing a British tabloid that accused her of being a professional “escort.”
The tabloid removed the story, but Melania is suing for $150 million because she lost a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to capitalize on her fame.
“A lawsuit filed by Melania Trump depicts her heightened profile as a “unique, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity” to make millions of dollars in business, once again raising questions about the relationship between President Trump’s official role and his family’s business interests.
“Mrs. Trump’s suit, filed on Monday in a New York State court, accuses The Daily Mail, a British tabloid, of libel for reporting last year on claims that a modeling agency she worked for in the 1990s was also an escort service.
“The new complaint does not refer explicitly to the White House or Mr. Trump, or even her status as a candidate’s wife when the article was published and now as first lady. Instead, it refers to opportunities she had “to launch a broad-based commercial brand in multiple product categories, each of which could have garnered multimillion dollar business relationships for a multiyear term during which plaintiff is one of the most photographed women in the world.”
*I changed the original title to avoid being sued

This might account for the vast number of you tube showings of Trump turning to Melania at the inauguration and saying something so nasty that she goes from a big smile to looking like she was kicked in the gut. And that my be the end for her and why she is really not living in the WH.

OR…perhaps she is suing because the magazine lied about the nature of her work as a model in an attempt to damage her personally.

Agreed that this is part of the claim and very possibly has truth to it.
But this:
“unique, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity”
and this:
“to launch a broad-based commercial brand in multiple product categories, each of which could have garnered multimillion dollar business relationships for a multiyear term during which plaintiff is one of the most photographed women in the world.”
…are indicative of the proverbial “smoking gun”.
I hear you on this, but the fact is that the lawsuit should stop in the area of slander. It’s wrong, both ethically and legally, for her to be profiting off of her status as FLOTUS.

And you need to prove economic loss in some of these libel cases. In the U. S. I believe she would be a celebrity and would have to prove it wasn’t true. Of course you can’t really prove a negative.

As a model, run of the mill, she did not stand to lose $150 million. As First Lady, she did. That is, if we are ok with the First Lady selling branded goods like jewelry, lipstick, perfume, clothing, from her unique position.

I think “lack of class” is the key phrase. No matter how much money and power the Trump clan accrues, they come across as buffoons….tacky, gaudy….and just plain weird.

What would O’Reilly and Hannity have led with every night for four years if nude pictures of Michelle Obama had emerged during the campaign? They were outrage Michele wore a sleeveless dress? With Mrs. Rump, who apparently had those photo shots taken before she had proper papers to work in our country…no outrage! Talk about white privilege!

For the GOP eager to reform tort law so that corporations won’t have to pay out big bucks for harming people anymore, I think you’re going to have to wait on that, because that’s probably on the back burner for Trump right now…
The phrase “unique, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity” obviously refers to her chances of cashing in on being the wife of Trump at a time when he’s at the forefront in the public eye, feels most successful and believes he can’t possibly have any conflicts of interest. Wow. It’s got the finger prints of the so-called president all over it.
I don’t know how libel suits work. Do her lawyers have to somehow prove that she’s really going to be losing $150M as the so-called first lady?
As thin skinned as he is, Trump’s biographers have reported that he realizes the value of negative publicity. And why not? Since when did negative press hurt Trump’s chances of success? Trump has made a fortune from branding and leasing his name, so if Trump knows anything, it’s marketing.
Maybe that’s really why they planted and then pulled the information about Melania selling her wares on the White House website. And perhaps that’s why she’s really holed up in NY and not living in the White House. She has to delay hitting the jack pot as the wife of the so-called president. Trump would know that he could probably further capitalize by not having her in the picture so much right now, adding an air of mystery to his wife’s persona, as that’s likely to garner curiosity and sympathy for her and then increase the payout down the road.
So, the Trumps are very likely to double dip on this law suit, due to at least two “alternate facts:” winning the lawsuit just because it was a lie that she was working for an escort service, and then making that $150M later on because her image has not really been tarnished.
It continues to amaze me how the super-rich so frequently resort to underhanded ploys in order to further increase their wealth, because they can never, ever truly be satiated. And, no, mr. so-called president, that’s not “sad.” Greedy self-indulgence is pathetic.

It amazes me that they continue to cash in on so called celebrity or infamy. Why do people fall for this? I agree with the those above that find the Trumps crass and/or weird. Many people must have a disconnect if they thought Trump would do anything for them or their country.

This, all coming from a woman who was fond of posing for lesbian porn aimed at men. not that there’s anything wrong with lesbianism, but let’s face it, Melania is all facelift, silicone, long legs, lip amplification, tummy tuck, QVC luxury hand bag contract, and opportunism.
Married to the Donald is a mere business arrangement with a baby.
What does she expect? You can’t live in an ivory Trump Tower and still think that your fame won’t inform people of your past.
Yet Melania’s opportunism is not even a molecule of the real harm her hubby and his soon to be uncaged cabinet of beasts will inflict upon the ordinary person in America. It’s Beauty and the Beasts, and this is no musical.

I wish I could be more surprised by this development. Disappointed and incensed, yes, but not surprised.
In an interview with Jerry Useem that was published in Fortune entitled ‘What Does Donald Trump Really Want?’, Trump said: “It’s very possible that I could be the first presidential candidate to run and make money on it,”
This seems just one more example of ‘All in the Family’, of which we can expect more.
That interview? It appeared in the April 3rd issue of Fortune . . . back in 2000 ! Looks like he’s honoring that campaign pledge too – this time to himself.

Yeah, that’s the end for us when we give in and start to confine ourselves to Trump’s 100-word vocabulary.
Here is an observation: my feeling is that there are very few true Trump fans. Otherwise we’d see people with Trump hairdos or at least orangeish hair and face color.
Long ago, when the Iran-Contra affair was the outrage, Ollie North was the hero of the day, and kids kept asking hair dressers to make them “Ollie do”. Half of the students in my classes had Ollie do—even some of the girls.
Even now, 40 years after his death, you can see people wearing Elvis hairdo.
My son used to have Bieber-do, and shook it in unison with all the other boys in front of his middle school.
But I see not a single orange head on campus or on the streets. Do you?

She is suing because of what she claims is a false statement about her. Anyone here who was accused of doing what she what she was accused of would be angry and would want so sue, particularly if the accusations weren’t true. Her lawyers are coming up with some damages to put in the complaint so they can recover money for their client. Melania is not the one behind Trump’s harmful policies, and she probably didn’t sign on to be FLOTUS or for these attacks when she married Donald over a decade ago.

The issue here is not whether she is suing for justice or money, but whether she expected to use her position as First Lady to market a new line of products.

Here is puzzle of the day: if the Unlady was locked in the Unpresidential Tower by a two-orange-headed dragon, would the Unpresident try to save her, or would just look for a replacement unlady at a European escort service?

Or perhaps it is her lawyers trying to come up with some basis for damages in a lawsuit. I don’t know if I can tell from the news item if she actually has the intent to do so, or if this was just included as a claim in her libel lawsuit by overzealous lawyers, but that’s just me.
