“Betsy DeVos and the three bears”
“Someone’s sleeping in my bed”
That is what the teacher said
“Someone’s eaten all my food
This is rheely rather rude
Someone’s taken all my stuff
Arne Duncan’s bad enough!”

Love it, And so true, too.
Both the DNC and the GOP diss teachers, despite what they “mouth” as accountability. GOP & DNC = HUBRIS!

Good to have my cup of poetry for the day.
I remember fondly a time when Yolanda Cornelia “Nikki” Giovanni was “disinvited” from a planned presentation at a local high school. A majority of the students were African American and from the nearby projects. Nikki was young and finding her voice in poems that included street talk. A little before the scheduled presentation, school officials cancelled it. The reason (in their mind) some vulgar expressions; In her mind, just the vernacular of the day likely to resonate with her audience.
What made the news? Students at this school left the building as soon as the presentation was cancelled. They demonstrated on the sidewalk outside, demanding THEIR poetry. The demands were heard by police (headquarters a block away) and then the TV reporters rushed in for a scoop (having listed to police radio transmissions). A protest about “poetry denied” made the evening news.
As I recall, her reading was rescheduled for the community center. It was still a sweet day for poetry in the hood. Learn more about Nikki at the website of the American Academy of Poets.

I seem to be one of the bears in the poem. I must be a grizzly bear. I knew DeVos wanted me dead. Don’t shoot, Betsy, don’t shoot!

I appreciate all the people coming out against De Vos…but where were they when we had Arne who was just as unexperienced and a hack just like her. Well he was more of a hack because he made it up as he went along. Most educators know the difference between growth and profiencey. She does not.
