Trump is a bully on the world stage. He is bullying and alienating our allies. If we need help, who will we turn to?
Is this the “art of the deal”? First, belittle your friends?
He is certainly changing America’s image in the world.
Here is the cover of the latest issue of the German magazine Der Spiegel.

I’m glad you decided to share this with everybody. It’s an appropriate companion to the current edition of The New Yorker.

It is imperative to also show and denounce Bannon’s influence in destroying Democracy, and his role as Trump’s brain.

I agree.
This cover is part of a long tradition of political protest artwork, styled for the cover of a magazine. Many of the comments about this cover fit into the current narrative from Trumpland: Opposition to Trump is just about a lot of people failing to accept that he won the election. The follow up– “Get over it, stop whining, get with the program.”
I will not remain silent.

I assume all of America received the RESIST emails today. Don’t know who took charge and got this going, but it is brilliant. I started a chapter in my local community a few minutes ago, and within 15 minutes have 15 members. We are meeting this week to hit the track running. Agree with you Laura, that we must not be silent, but rather shout out loudly to RESIST.

I remember when Reagan was elected in 1980. He was sunny and optimistic. His there was “Morning in America.”
With Trump, the vision is bleak and dystopian. Threats of war are in the air. He is always shown scowling and angry.
It is midnight in America.

my nephew pointed out the “Caligula” aspect some time back… that’s why I liked this cover…. and Caligula wanted to be a “god like mommy” or whoever… (speaking of these characters from the ancient domination systems, I was sad to see that I Claudius star is lost to us — John Hurt)

He’s decapitated Lady Liberty and Lady Justice (Iustitia).
From that David Frum article: Quote – At a rally in Grand Rapids, Michigan, in December, Trump got to talking about Vladimir Putin. “And then they said, ‘You know he’s killed reporters,’ ” Trump told the audience. “And I don’t like that. I’m totally against that. By the way, I hate some of these people, but I’d never kill them. I hate them. No, I think, no—these people, honestly—I’ll be honest. I’ll be honest. I would never kill them. I would never do that. Ah, let’s see—nah, no, I wouldn’t. I would never kill them. But I do hate them.” End quote.
This malicious gargoyle is our president!!!!!!!! And there are dopes out there who think he’s the greatest thing since sliced bread. Will it take another total economic collapse (or worse) for Americans to wake up?

in this city we have an (a) events group and (b) and action group…. Our action group is sending out emails weekly and a website is planned. The local organization of people is important … whatever it is called… we also have a Merrimack Valley action group that spans through Haverhill, Lawrence etc. (so far Lawrence is a sanctuary city and Haverhill is not but we are working on that.) I have some additional hopes; my niece who has said “I do my job; I am not political” is asking for information (I sent her the Eliot Cohen article in Atlantic)… and a friend who works in the testing department (yes that horrid PARRC tests) signed a Southern Poverty Law Center request to deposit Bannon. Gather as many as you can on each and every one of the priorities.

textbook bullying (or mob boss 101): Intent to gain power; frequency; harm – and threaten resistence
Intimidate and alienate the victim. (pick country or issue)
1a. If no victim exists, find scapegoat your base will accept (pick nationality or issue)
Ridicule the victim in front of others.
Blame the victim and anyone who criticizes (media)
4.. Attack the victim with lies, rumors, innuendo, and gossip. Did I mention lies (can you believe the NYT Review section actually uses the term president “lying” on p.1. That’s some serious stuff).
THREATEN so-called friends and ALLIES TO REMAIN SILENT or join in the bullying
6.. RETALIATE AGAINST ALLIES and friends who walk away or denounce the actions
how else can you explain not one of 48 republican senators voting no on DeVos.
They are scared to cross the mob boss

There are 52 Republican Senators
Two (who voted yes in committee) are voting no
Unless one more Republicanvotes no, there will be a 50-50 tie and Mike Pence will cast the deciding vote
If that happens, then we can be sure the whole thing was Kabuki drama, with Collins and Murkowski given permission to vote no because the party owns every vote and no one is independent.

I contacted both of my senators (Warner/Kaine) both are voting against the confirmation. Would you at least concede that there are some Republican senators who are in favor of the nomination, and are reflecting the wishes of their constituents? One I can think of is Sen. Lamar Alexander of Tenn. He is an enthusiastic supporter of Ms. DeVos.

Charles,
Fifty Republican senators are ignoring the wishes of their constituents. Their phone lines are jammed. They are not responding to thousands and thousands of calls, emails, faxes.

I apologize for posting this twice, meant to put it here for Charles.
Here’s a good example of how and why Republican senators will ignore their constituents’ calls and messages. Colorado Sen. Cory Gardner blames it on “paid protesters”: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/cory-gardner-paid-protesters-trump-calls_us_58937d6ee4b07595d05a5087

Five men, authors, on different topics discuss this National Security in as informed, intelligent and authoritative manner as anything I have seen in a very long time.
The topic could not be more timely
or
discussed in a more intellectually stimulating way in my opinion.
This information is absolutely VITAL to our national interests.

Call and write the TV stations. Even after the vote.
Ask why senators aren’t keeping phones & voice mail open. Critical vote. Offices should be staffed all weekend. Ask them to investigate her campaign contributions to their senators.
