The publisher is rushing an additional printing of 1984. The book went to #1 on amazon. It is essential for understanding the moment we are in.
Almost 70 years after “1984” was first published, Orwell suddenly feels doubleplus relevant. Considering the New Trumpmatics, it’s impossible not to remember Winston Smith, the hero of “1984,” who predicted, “In the end the Party would announce that two and two made five, and you would have to believe it.”
Orwell biographer Gordon Bowker is not at all surprised by the renewed interest. “The continuing popularity of ‘Nineteen Eighty-four’ is a reminder,” he said via email, “of the threat to democracy posed by those with power who proclaim ‘alternative facts’ and deny objective truths. Big Brother’s pronouncements are treated as absolute truth by his acolytes, even when they defy rational thought — so Black is White, 2+2=5, War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery, Ignorance is Strength.”
Friends, we are living in a dystopian reality. Not a novel.
Lies trump facts.

“Lies trump facts.”
If I may reorder your sentence and add a little punctuation: Fact’s: Trump lies.

In the case of Trump, 2+2 equaling 5 would be an improvement. Close enough. No, for Trump the more apt equation would be 2+2 = -50,000,000,000 X 0.0000345 X 666 X 666.
Sometimes I wake up in the morning still thinking that Obama is the president and then I realize that we have this leering, pouting demagogue in charge of the nuclear codes.

Trump is the end result of the Republican party’s alternate universe about climate change, voter fraud, benefits of trickle down economics, neoliberalism, and exporting jobs. The difference is that the “normal” Republicans would con their voters by speaking and acting in a manner that projected an air of thoughtfulness that would be the basis of the final decisions. Trump is anything but thoughtful. His rash words/actions is reportedly already giving pause to some of his supporters

They should dedicate the next printing to Trump.

Nearly ten years ago I wrote a sequel to 1984 called 2044. In my update, the problem isn’t Big Brother and the leviathan government. The problem is Big Brother, Inc., and the all-powerful marketplace. Sadly, it has become truer ever since. http://www.2044thenovel.com.
