Greg Sergeant valiantly tries to list the lies told by Trump in his first interview since becoming president.
Start with his claim that 3-5 million votes were cast by illegals. Add to that his claim that all of those votes went for Hillary. Then his claim that a Pew study backs up his story. Then his insistence that the author of the study, who disagrees with Trump, is “groveling.”
If Trump is right, the election results should be thrown out and another election should be held.

You have to stop posting the diversions. Keep to the important issues. Just saying.

Not that my voice counts for much around here any more, but I second this. Trump lies – we’ve known that all along. And he does it, I think, in large part to keep his critics focused on that, not what he’s doing behind closed doors. The question is what’s being done to stop him.

The fact that we have a howling sociopathic demagogue in the White House is not an important issue? Good grief, when do people wake up?

Totally agree, Joe. These are not diversions, and if some of the readers of this blog think that Trump’s lies have nothing to do with education, they are incredibly naive. He will impact education, the environment, women’s rights, minority rights, LGBT rights, etc.
It will impact us, our children, their education, the future of this country, and of this planet.
We need to seriously think about what kind of country we will leave to our children and grand-children.
If we scr*w up this country badly enough, our children’s’ education will only be one part of it, but certainly not the only part.

For those who want “pure” education posts, nothing is stopping you from reading them and passing on the others. I love reading the education posts because I’ve been out of the education world for 19 years and I learn something new from every one.
What attracts me to this site is my strong belief that Diane is the most important civic educator in the nation. Her record and views on education are the glue that holds it all together. The old truism that you don’t discuss religion and politics at the dinner table always caused me to ask my students, “Then what the hell do you talk about at dinner?” I feel like we can talk about anything in Diane’s living room/dinner table/classroom. Our love of public education is what invites us all in.

Diane,
Sorry for the off topic comment but I don’t know how otherwise to get to you.
I very much appreciate your work and advocacy but noticed that your tweets are coming through using linkis – this requires people authorize linkis to access their twitters to get to your links.
I, and others, don’t want to grant them access and have problems with their “service.” If you agree, could you not tweet using their links – I believe it would make your links easier for people to click through to get to the source documents you’re linking to.
I, relatively recently, somehow started using linkis and my friends / followers brought it to my attention so I got rid of it.
If you agree, here are a couple of pages with more info:

DARTH BANNON
Bannon to Media: Keep Your Mouth Shut
“The media should be embarrassed and humiliated and keep its mouth shut and just listen for awhile,” Steve Bannon, President Trump’s chief White House Strategist, said during a telephone call with the New York Times on Thursday. “I want you to quote this,” Mr. Bannon added. “The media here is the opposition party. They don’t understand this country.” Bannon, one of Trump’s most trusted advisors, previously served as the executive chair at Breitbart News, a far-right outlet that has frequently featured alt-right, xenophobic, racist, conspiracy theory-heavy commentary. During their first week in the White House, President Trump, Bannon, and press secretary Sean Spicer have frequently expressed their views of the “dishonest media.”
This pronouncement came today from Steve ‘Goebbels’ Bannon. Shut down all the media he says.
Note to teachers who do not want Diane to post “diversions”….I am really concerned about teachers who want to shut down the discussion of all of the incendiary problems Trump is causing each moment. What are you teaching in your classrooms if not current politics and history of government? If you bury your heads in Trump defecation, you perhaps need to find a new career. Real teachers teach what the real world presents.

Apparently, Mr. Bannon likes to refer to himself as Darth Vader. He obviously never saw the Return of the Jedi because in that movie, Vader KILLS the Emperor and regains his humanity after telling his son, Luke Skywalker, that he was right about knowing that he (Vader) still had good in him. So, Vader was redeemed in the end. Sorry, Mr. Bannon, you are no Darth Vader.

I’m sure that there will be some who will read this comment and think, “That could never happen here.”
I suspect that Littlefingers Donald Trump’s endless lies that support his alternative reality will eventually lead to him calling for martial law and a suspension of Congress and all Constitutional rights including the 1st and 2nd Amendments. When that happens there is only one force with the power to stop Littlefingers, the U.S. Military.
Will the generals do what the GOP is not doing; will the generals say no and refuse to obey that order when it comes?
U.S. Military officers do not have to obey the President’s orders, and they know this.
But officers of the National Guard swear an oath to obey the President and the Governor of the state or territory.
Officers in the U.S. Military (Army, Air Force, Marines, and Navy) swear a different oath than officers in the National Guard.
“I, [name], do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office upon which I am about to enter. So help me God.”
I’m not sure about the Coast Guard.
The size of the National Guard (state militia, reserve forces) is 578,900
Most members of the Nation Guard are part time and have jobs in the private sector. The National Guard takes an oath to perform state or federal missions and can be deployed for either. A governor can call up troops to assist in national disasters, and the president can order troops for federal missions both domestically and in foreign nations.
Total active military, Navy, Army, Marines and Air Force, is more than 1.4million
What happens if a state’s governor refused to cooperate or agree with a presidential order for martial law?

A 20% tax on all imports from Mexico lets add China to it as well great idea .That would be fantastic bring it on Donald . The sooner the better.and yes Bill Clinton’s name is on that policy regardless of the fact that it belongs to Republican Congresses.
I figure it might take about five to ten years to rebuild the industrial base that we lost since NAFTA and Permanent most favored nation status with China . Of course those sparkling new factories will have the latest in robotics with far fewer humans than when they left with 5 million jobs.
Think of the positives all of those Mexicans going back to their family farms that NAFTA destroyed. As Corporate mega farms in the wheat belt get a sh-lacking. I’ll bet they can grow corn quicker in a Mexican village than we can grow factories.
But in the 2 years that it takes to just draw up the plans for our re-industrialization, Americans would see a massive pay cut on day one as the cost of almost everything they buy goes up by 20 percent .Or corporate America takes a shave in profits and the markets tumble or both.
Everybody thinks that Trade agreements were about tariffs. Sorry they were already very low, they were really about creating a framework where by American multinationals could feel safe relocating their supply chains and factories, into cheap labor markets. How long before the shelves in Walmart are emptied as China launches an economic retaliation disrupting .
We may finally get the “change we can believe in” as those Trump voters storm the Bastille with pitchforks and gasoline. I don’t think they will be bothering with locking them up.

Sorry to “offend” but it’s true; when you teach in a slum you see the devastating effect of too much estrogen, and too little testosterone. Young men need role models.
