The Washington Post reports that the entire top management team at the State Department resigned today rather than work for Trump and Tillerson. This is unprecedented.
“It’s the single biggest simultaneous departure of institutional memory that anyone can remember, and that’s incredibly difficult to replicate,” said David Wade, who served as State Department chief of staff under Secretary of State John Kerry. “Department expertise in security, management, administrative and consular positions in particular are very difficult to replicate and particularly difficult to find in the private sector.”

But now (just a few minutes ago), CNN reports that those 4 officials were asked to resign by Trump’s admin. Either way it’s ‘unprecedented’. In fact I find the updated story more disturbing as it seems to indicate a lack of common sense. I gather usually such types stay on for a period of time to ensure no lapse in efficient running of daily operations.

YES. In a comparison, much of Hitler’s abuse came from the sociopaths which his clear lack of moral conscience drew to his side.

What if you give a party and no one attends?
With many Mayors resisting Trump’s orders on immigrants, and with non partisan government high ranking officials jumping ship, and with Mexico no longer talking with Trump, and with China threatening to react force in the South China Sea…on and on…in only less than one week, imagine the First 100 Days. Will we have a country left?
Some say Pence would be worse. However, Pence is smart enough, and far less crazed, and he knows that nuclear engagement and a break down of society would be a disaster. He can also count bodies on the Washington Mall, and protests worldwide.
Impeach Trump now….or LOCK HIM UP.

From the Center for Biological Diversity
“Trump’s First Days: Pipelines, Censorship, Wall and More
How bad has Trump been his first week in office? Atrocious. Among other awful acts, he’s revived the dangerous Keystone XL and Dakota Access pipelines, scrubbed any mention of climate change from the White House website, pushed ahead the border wall (bad for people and wildlife like jaguars and ocelots), and put a gag on the Environmental Protection Agency.
Oh, and his response to millions of women and allies who marched Saturday? Making it harder for women worldwide to access reproductive healthcare.
Trump is just getting started — but so is the Center for Biological Diversity. We’re still energized from the amazing #Earth2Trump tour that galvanized thousands of activists across the country in the resistance movement. We’ll fight every one of Trump’s attacks.”

I have to agree, Ellen. As recently as Sun I would have said “Don’t impeach him– Pence would be worse.” But Trump has doubled-down on horrendous Cabinet selections w/ a series of executive orders that seem to reflect the positions of his most ardent right-wingnut advisers.
Most striking, re: making his intentions clear, is timing his executive orders re: the Wall & sanctuary cities while Mexican officials were here, even answering Vicente Fox’s Wed interview w/Anderson Cooper (“we won’t pay for Wall”) by floating today a plan to tax Mexican imports 20% to pay for it– resulting in Mexican officials heading home & Mex Pres canceling his trip to DC.
All this while dumping State Dept heads thus creating paralysis in ops there until his folks can take over… good lord!!
Tho I have heretofore regarded Pence as an extreme Evangelist former Limbaugh-style talk radio host who’s done his best to destroy pulic ed in IN… I’m starting to see his 12 yrs in Congress & 4 yrs as govr as huge plusses by comparison to a Pres / no previous govt experience, w/an equally-inexperienced-in-govt alt-right wingnut Chief
Strategist/ Sr Counselor whispering in his ear.
Impeachment? Bring it on!

Putting a 20% tariff on Mexican (and other countries goods apparently) will just raise the price of the goods by 20%. So if the American consumer wants those goods, they will have to pay the extra 20% which the govt will take to the build the wall.
Mexico will only take the hit if it has to put up the price by less than 20%. But then Mexico has alternatives – America is an easy option for their exports but Canada is another good target.

I wonder now, already how many of the people who voted for Trump are seeing the change that they foresaw or wanted.
Just when you think it cannot get any worse

While these individuals may have been planning to leave due to the change in administration, their departure might have been hastened by Trump’s minions. These people do not appear to have any understanding of how the government functions;worse, they may not care.

Listen, this is going to give Bannon and his ‘advisors’ a chance to fill the state department with incompetants and sycophants so that nothing works.
Those villains that have been nominated for cabinet positions are going to be confirmed, too.
Here is something you can do. I to this letter today.
“Without Republican defections, Democrats will not be able to stop confirmations. However they can and should slow the work of the Senate, making it difficult to move nominees and reducing the amount of time Republicans have to dismantle critical services and programs.
“Sources in Democratic Senate offices claim they are not receiving very many calls in opposition to Trump’s cabinet nominees. We need to flood the lines to show them how serious we are about resisting a tyrannical government. Democrats have the opportunity to be heroes by reducing the amount of time Republicans have to push their dangerous, amoral agenda. Ask your Democratic senator(s) to step up to the plate.
“IN NY, Call Senator Charles E. Schumer at (202) 224-6542 and Senator Kirsten E. Gillibrand at (202) 224-4451. *BTW The NPE site gives you a list of all the other senators and their numbers…
“Sample script:
Hi, I’m (say your name) from (say from where you’re calling). Donald Trump has nominated frightening extremists to all levels of the federal government. I am counting on my senator to object to unanimous consent for all of Trump’s cabinet nominees in order to slow the work of the Senate. Every minute spent on nominations is time Republicans won’t have to dismantle critical services and programs.
Once you’ve placed the call, please click here to tell us how it went.
Can’t call? Please write a personalized letter to your Democratic senator(s) urging them to delay the confirmation process and force cloture and a roll call vote on every Trump nominee.”
Keep fighting,

These are career diplomats who have served for decades, under presidents Democratic and Republican. One gave a reception this morning for those who serve under her and all had difficulty containing tears. She has spent 43 years serving our country, and her portfolio included Mexico. Foreign Service Officers all over the world thought their superiors were staging a walk-out, given that the story reported was that they had resigned. They offered their resignations pro forma yesterday and were told that today was their final day.
I think Trump is mentally incompetent to hold office, but I believe those gathered around him are determined to wreck all the systems of our democracy.
