Sad that most here feel compelled to vote for Clinton only because of how unacceptable Trump is.The truth is the entire Republican party has been a far right neo liberal party since Reagan. The fact is that the Democrats have pursued policy that is not much different in its effect than Republican policy. Sooner or later voting for the lesser evil is not going to work. If it were only our industrial sector that was the focus of this neo-liberal assault by the establishment of both parties, there would not be such angst on both the Left and the Right . From the Gig economy and the mis-classification of workers, to the assault on Teachers to a Trade policy that has put “Corporate America first”.
I think he would. From race baiting, to blacklisting, to his economic and anti union stands. He would be the Grand Poobah of today’s Republican party. I voted for Carter, but took a sigh when Reagan got elected. I lived to regret that moment.
Thank you. I find it disheartening to hear to many people “wondering” where on earth Mr. Trump came from, as if there simply is no memory of the past 40 years.
Our experience with Reagan shows us that it really matters what you say. During his 8 years in office, none of the behaviors he showed us matched the retoric. He said the problem was government, but he did not shut it down like today’s Republicans. He preached and sermonized on the wonders of unbridled capitalism but never really took off the bridle at all.
What he did was to raise a generation of Republican true believers who really believed everything he said. They believed he was responsible for the collapse of the Soviet Union, even though its demise had been predicted before he even ran. They believed the recovery really helped people recover. They ignore history in favor of myth.
So now we have a dying electorate that sat at the clay feet of Reagan, whose vision of the country really did not operate the way he claimed it did. We have pushed right until it is a fringe idea for people to suggest that the economy is not working for us all.
Or it was. Now a new generation looks to Bernie, who speaks to their desire to join in the dream. Meanwhile, an older generation looks back to what was never there, trusting Trump will take them there. Change is in the air, even as it was as the Guilded age gave way to the progressive era.
I’m sure that the holier than thou Jill Stein cultists consider Warren to be a sell out and that she’s likely to start WWIII with nuclear bombs, napalm, agent orange and dum-dum bullets.
At one or two percent. There are not many Bernie supporters who are voting for Stein over Hillary. More likely millennials will stay home as the youth vote usually does.
Huffpo reported today that the AARP (recently shamed for being part of ALEC), has given awards to Republican lawmakers who want to cut Social Security. AARP’s alarmist PR sounds a lot like the usual propaganda from the privatizing richest 0.1%.
Linda–I heard that, too, on “The Big Picture w/Thom Hartmann”–also, they just made a weird commercial, which was dissected & analyzed on the show tonight (mention was made of their
involvement w/United Health Care). IMO, they “publicly” quit ALEC, but “privately” are still D.B.A. (Kinda like one of the Wikileaks RE: HRC’s “public” & “private” policies.)
You can probably watch this show on YouTube.
This will show up tomorrow as an ad for tRump. It will be edited to stop after Warren says says “tRump is right, the system is rigged.”

I don’t think Ronald Reagan would recognize who the GOP are now.
