The biggest political story of the day confirms what people suspected about Donald Trump: he has a loathsome view of women as sex objects, eager to be touched by him. CNN posted his full statements. It contains language that I never permit on this blog.
I read it and was stunned that he would make these comments in the presence of other people. It is the worst kind of juvenile, locker-room insulting of women.
This is a man who looks on women with contempt and measures their worth by the size of their breasts. But that’s the least of what he said.
He is vulgar, crude, and an embarrassment to the Republican Party and to our nation.

Maybe we should ask Monica Lewinski what Bill had to say to her

The fool of a woman who enabled and protected Bill Clinton is running for president. Let’s not act like Trump would be the first man to sit in the Oval Office who speaks this way. He’s the first one who got caught. I suspect Kennedy, Johnson, and a Bush or two also spoke that way. It’s a non issue for me when casting my ballot. I’m more concerned with Hillary’s obligations to Wall Street and her denial of it than I am with Trump’s locker room talk. Hillary has not fooled this Bernie supporter and no matter what Trump says, I will not vote for her.

Hillary did not “enable” Bill Clinton. Hillary was a woman who had a husband who cheated and, yes, Bill Clinton was disgusting. But Bill Clinton is not running for president, Trump is. And we have a fully grown man running for president who did not practice “locker room” talk, but was describing sexual assault and laughing about it.
If Trump supporters want to deflect to Bill Clinton as a strategy and attack Hillary for trying to save her marriage, go for it. Maybe serial adulterers Guliani, Gingrich, or Trump himself can tweet that strategy to all women who have worked through marital issues. Or maybe we can put his comments on a bumper sticker for dads with young daughters entering middle or high school. Here’s one – Republicans can give out pack backs to college aged women with Trump’s portrait and the phrase “grab my p—–!”. I encourage Republicans to keep defending their man as they are now doing.

Your opinion of women is disgusting. She stood by her husband. That’s it She did not “enable” him anymore than any woman “enables” her husband to have an affair. Don’t blame the victim here. What Bill Clinton did was wrong. But to say that Trump “just did the same thing” is disingenuous, since the Republicans were all clamoring to get the guy thrown out, but just shrug that Donald Trump has done FAR worse with women, and multiple times (3 marriages, anyone?).

Remember that when Bill Clinton’s infidelities were revealed, he was ashamed. He turned purple and tried to save his marriage.
When Trump’s lascivious behavior was revealed, he laughed and said it was just locker room banter and “everyone does it.” He has no sense of shame. He has no dignity. He is a dirty old man. Don’t let your wives or daughters near him. Don’t let them watch TV when he is on. He is revolting.

But we trusted the president to defuse the crisis and avert a nuclear war, and to call upon us to fire only if necessary for the nation’s survival. The whole point would be to never have to fire. Presidents can choose to disregard an intelligence finding, but at this point, why would Mr. Trump feel he has better information or analytical ability than a “high confidence” conclusion by the country’s intelligence professionals? Why would he not want to acknowledge a threat and address it?
“‘For most of this campaign, Donald Trump’s admiration for Vladimir Putin, the Russian president, and his willingness to act as a Kremlin apologist on issues ranging from Syria to the computer hacking of individuals and political parties have been sources of bafflement and dismay. Mr. Trump’s alarming performance at Sunday night’s debate deepened these concerns.
Mr. Trump again denied that the Russians were doing anything to manipulate the presidential election despite powerful evidence to the contrary. And he again laid bare his cockamamie and uninformed view of the bloody civil war in Syria and his refusal to acknowledge Russia’s role in making it worse.
Mr. Trump has no foreign policy experience. He has, however, received two briefings from American intelligence agencies that should have alerted him to the challenges facing the next president but apparently have not. All of which raises unsettling questions about whether the Republican nominee for the most powerful job in the world is Mr. Putin’s poodle, stubbornly naïve, totally clueless or, as some have ominously suggested, protecting undisclosed business interests in Russia.”

I have criticized Obama, Duncan, King, and others who have set themselves against public schools and teachers. I doubt there is any blog that has been more outspoken on the subjects of privatization, high-stakes testing, and teacher-bashing.
But as strongly and passionately as I feel on these subjects, I will vote enthusiastically for Hillary. She may be as bad on education as Obama, and if she is, I will fight her.
But education is not the only issue that matters. There is also climate change, gun control, civil rights, women’s rights, gay rights, international relations, income inequality, and many other crucial issues where Trump will take us back before the New Deal. No part of his tax plan, for example, would affect his own taxes or diminish his wealth. He is against carried interest, as is she, which benefits hedge fund managers. But he won’t touch the write offs for real estate moguls like himself.
Add in his ludicrous claim that he will build a border wall and Mexico will pay for it; his promise to round up and deport 11 million undocumented immigrants; his promise to choose right wing Supreme Court justices who will roll back Roe v. Wade and gay rights and strengthen Citizens United.
Whether you like Hillary is irrelevant. What matters to me is that Trump is a fascist, a vengeful lunatic, and an aging pervert.

Both men were unfaithful. The difference is that the Donald shamelessly bragged over radio about his extra marital exploits as recently as 2005, while Bill does not brag, but instead expresses genuine and specific contrition.
Trump’s “I’m sorry if I offended” was all he could muster after his colleagues forced him to read from a teleprompter script they crafted.

Is there something about fame and power that makes powerful men feel impervious to the morals they swear to protect? Or are all people corrupt, and those in power just noticed because they live their lives in a fishbowl? And if men are corrupt because of their desires, what desires make women corrupt?
John Locke and Adam Smith were sure that people were not inherently corrupt, as Thomas Hobbes had asserted in Leviathan. Smith even suggested that we help each other along by serving our own interests. It seems to me that the “machine that goes of itself” envisioned by our founding fathers and influenced by the men mentioned above is in need of an overhaul.
Our election cycle now is so absent of discussion of policy that I have quit watching debates and reading about candidates. Republicans see no role for government at all and Democrats never fail to suggest a governmental solution if there is a problem. Both sides look to technological saviors for the solution of crises of the will.
The political earth is parched. No one will say the truth. The people are hurting because they will not help each other stop hurting. They would prefer to blame teachers instead of doing their homework. They would prefer to blame government instead of pressing for innovation in business. Others are the problem, not themselves. When will the waters of forgiveness and understanding wash away the sins of this adulterous generation?
Let us return to basic principles of goodness and decency. Let us educate our children, who deserve nothing less. Let us all work hard to make our county great, just, moral, and admired by a world that used to see us as a light to other nations. Let us admit our flaws and work to repent from them. Let us embrace each other and find common ground.

I look forward to a return of sanity, when folks look to a president to be not a celebrity but a hard-working, long-experienced [many-times elected!] leader of his party, whose goals & ethics synch with the current mood of the country.
Since JFK, too many times the country has encouraged candidates who are good-looking &/or well-spoken orators, lacking that crucial combination of public-good ideals with the bipartisan-deal-making skill that comes from long govtl experience. Those good-looking orators who have had careers dumped or sullied by sexual scandal (Gary Hart, Jack & Ted Kennedy, Bill Clinton) have that sort of charismatic personality lacking in impulse-control that can be characteristic of those capable of withstanding constant media scrutiny and regular rejection/ defeat: the same CV as actors/ entertainers (think Reagan).
Trump is just our first actor/ entertainer/ celebrity candidate to attempt election without experience in elections or governance. There will be more, if the voting populace continues to confuse entertainers with leaders. Perhaps we should consider a shift to a parlamentarian system like those where a figurehead is backed by an actual president.

“So it seems to me, just based on your own past statements, this was either done to Donald Trump by himself, by David Farenhold, by somebody at Access Hollywood, or by God. And I wonder if you now believe that ‘God has taken down whom He will.’ ”
MICHELLE BACHMAN: “I think quite clearly, what is going to happen, is that on the first Tuesday in November, people are going to take a real strong look at where America is at, and where they want America to be, not just in a broad way, but for them personally… (goes on to portray America in crisis … blah-blah-blah … ).”

I am a playwright and I know something about how character is revealed.
You see, there is NO narrative in most plays. The only way to know the intentions and the personality of a character is to hear him speak and see what he does.
Trump reveals himself, over and over, but the political hacks that run for office BELEIVE that it is they who create the narrative, and we should ignore the reality.
Thus we get the incessant rant about who crooked Hillary is, so we should ignore the astonishing career that her intelligence and determination enabled.

I know, I get the Revolution alerts from the people who ran his campaign.
I hear all the ‘he deserted us” how could he do that to me. Yeah, it is ALL about them.
They would have trusted him to be president but not to make a decision like he did.
Supporters of Trump ignore the reality of who he is, and we can understand their ignorance…. but when they come to a blog like this, mistaking it for a social blog where the can shoot off their mouths and relieve the boredom of their lives by spouting nonsense, they are making a big mistake. We, who watch and listen to children, know tantrums when we hear them.
This is a place where serious people deal with serious issues –people who deal with OBSERVABLE REALITY, people who are not impervious to evidence and facts, people who did not buy the big CON.
