I accidentally put the wrong date on a post that is supposed to run tomorrow at 9 am.
It tells the story of my meeting last night with Hillary.
I took it down and will repost tomorrow.

There is something to be said for constituency politics. I guess lefty we will know which constituency she represents only after the election.

Joel, you’re right as always, but we’ve been pushing for Diane to be provided an audience with the queen for some time now. This is important to me. I do not underestimate Hillary’s ability to be Shillary. However, moreover, I do not underestimate Diane’s ability to teach.

LeftCoast . The political gamble of the UFT/NEA was that they would have a real seat at the table. I do not believe that Hillary or Obama need education. It is just a matter of who they choose to serve. Diane daily lays out the case and though we are disgusted and out raged are any of us surprised. So if ignorance is the problem than Diane will educate. I do not think either is ignorant. What Hillary does will be a political calculation, that may hinge on how badly Trump is defeated.
Just as Obama pushing the TPP in the lame duck was a calculation made after the polls swung to Hillary (Mark Weisbrot CEPR)

Joel, ….maybe. I agree that if there’s a teachable deficit, then there’s a good likelihood Dr. Ravitch could meet it. And I agree neither politician is feeble.
However Ms. Rodham, esq. has no experience of sending her own precious (not said facetiously) child to public schools. And as the parent of children who attended both public and private, I insist that *Experience Matters*.
This is well encapsulated by noting that these onerous ®eforms are all asserted for “other people’s children”. This is not just a toss-away observation: it is seminal. If you don’t know, personally, the results and sequelae of your prescriptions, then weird-ass stuff gets prescribed. There’s no check on the theory, no experience felt by the decision-makers.
I believe a goodly portion of ®eformers believe deeply in the social justice they are pursuing, ineffectively. I think the disconnect lies in absence of experience. And hence, it matters that HRC is essentially unteachable. (She may nevertheless be a worthy choice for your vote though).

I occasionally allow myself a little naïveté regarding politics to keep me going. Got to stay positive in the trenches. Election 2016 can rip people apart. ®eform (I like the way Red Queen spells it.) has been ripping me apart for years. But admit it, if someone can successfully place “sequelae” and “weird-ass” in a single sentence, anything can happen.

It just hit me. Is Obama really pushing TPP again? Ugh. Unbelievable.

She may be the only electable person for me ! to vote for . Whether she was worthy of that vote, will depend on who she chooses to govern for. I am not very optimistic.
I believe a much larger portion of the ed reform movement is using social just issues, to grant themselves absolution for the nefarious motives at the heart of this assault.
Much like the claim that repealing Prevailing Wage laws which establish industry wide livable wages, is Civil rights issue. Or everybody should have a Right to Work (for less}. Those that make these claims know full well the shallowness of their argument. From the Billionaire Philanthropists to the TFA “volunteer” it is not a matter of ignorance.
For the public at large it is a matter of ignorance. That is where Diane is most useful. She has illuminated daily the abuse and deception of the ed reform movement, to a rather large following. A message that is now breaking through from the NAACP to the late night Comedy Circuit.

ROFLMAO. Electable?! Not a chance! But very flattering, I appreciate it.

I know there is a lot of anticipation, given the accidental posting, the crazy election, and strong feelings about education. I have read the post (thank you, rss), and I have this to say, as a retired 31 year veteran teacher, who has read most every word Diane has written since 2009, and even met her a couple of times…
Diane – thank you!!
