This is a brilliant yet simple infographic that explains the logic of what is deceitfully called “reform.”
Reform begins with a narrative about “failing schools.”
Students take tests whose passing mark is so high that the failure rate is high, thus proving the narrative.
The government closes the schools with the lowest scores, which are almost all in poor black and Hispanic communities.
The empty school is turned over to a private corporation, which has no relationship to the local community.
The privately managed school calls itself “a public school” because it gets public money.
When an employee or a family sues because their rights were violated, the charter corporation says it is a private contractor, not a state actor.

Dear Diane:
Thanks a lot for the referral to Kate…I appreciate it.

That would be a lot of profit, if it were all concentrated in one place. but it is not. Even at 150 Billion divided the hundred of ways it would have to be divided,to accommodate all those players pushing privatization it comes to chump change for the billionaire class. You can argue that several players like Gates may not be all that altruistic and could reap nice profits by hedging on merging his core business with the destruction of public ed. You can pick a few others out as well . We can talk about a revolving door between Government political appointees and the for profit ed business . But the” Philanthropy and Business Round Table”(Kumashiro) and the more vociferous vultures from Wall Street have a unifying motive far greater than profit.
That motive is not concern for America’s children. Hillary may have thought there was a vast right wing conspiracy, out to get her and Bill for possible personal indiscretions. If there ever was a vast right wing conspiracy, it is the assault on Public Education. Democratic Neo-liberals are economic right wingers as well. Power and control over the distribution of wealth is the concern. To do that you destroy Unions and Democratic governance . You starve the beast make it dysfunctional , destroy the idea that the people collectively through Government can accomplish anything . What is left is Oligarchy .

Reporter Brandon Hall (Western Michigan Politics, July 23, 2016) wrote that Betsy DeVos gave nearly S1 mil., to the Clintons, over the past 6 years.

Linda,
Please documentation. I searched Google and can’t find it.

I have been reading Brandon Hall’s blog. He is a die-hard Trump supporter. I don’t think that what he writes would be considered documentary evidence of anything.

I quoted Hall. (I do not verify his information.) There is a website listing of speaking fees for Bill Clinton- $700,000 from Amway (Osaka, Japan, 2013), accompanied by his photo at an Amway podium- Scoopnest and several other sites. (I’m not authenticating the accuracy.) There are, at several sites (Conservative Transparency and Omega World News, included), that lists Dick and Betsy DeVos, $20,000 to the Clinton Global Initiative. (I am quoting, not verifying.) The Hill reported on a keynote speech by Bill or Hillary Clinton, at the Grand Rapids Economic Club (2013), for an event that honored Doug DeVos. I assume a fee was paid.

Diane Ravich predicted the current disaster for public education years ago. How Not to Fix Our Public Schoolsand in her book “Reign of Error: The Hoax of the Privatization Movement and the Danger to America’s Public Schools” http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/reign-of-error-by-diane-ravitch/2013/10/18/2ec6a848-2623-11e3-b3e9-d97fb087acd6_story.htm: https://dianeravitch.net/?s=legislature
As a daily reader of the Diane Ravitch blog, I am watching as the state legislatures , take over public education appoint businessmen to oversee the schools, with little or no transparency.

Put ‘PRIVATIZATION’ into the search field at the Ravitch blog, and see for yourself, or Put charter school failure in the search field and judge for yourself what is happening.

This is great. So many people ask, in disbelief, how in the world could billionaires like Broad and Gates be into public education for the money.

I saw this graphic or one very much like it a couple of years ago and it led me to the book “Weapons of Mass Deception” by David Spring and Elizabeth Hanson. The book is full of great graphics and information. They have a webpage at https://weaponsofmassdeception.org/

Money, not people has become the bottom line.
How long can ANY society last when that is the “philosophy” by which society is held together.
“Of what use is a bag of gold in the middle of a desert” is only one of the MANY deleterious, self destructive factors in such a viewpoint.

The infographic is great. It’s embarrassing that the article’s header reads “Seattle, Washington”. The territory north of Oregon is not a state. It is a colony of Silicon Valley’s oligarchs. It dishonors George Washington to use his name, for what was formerly one of the 50 states. Ohio is also an embarrassment of corruption.
