Our blog poet has not commented lately. Poet, we miss you! Come back!
“The night they drove Statricksy down” (parody of “The night they drove Old Dixie down)
Thomas Kane is my name and I drove on the VAMville train
‘Til Audrey Beardsley came and tore up the tracks again.
After the ASA* paper knife , we were hungry, just barely alive.**
By twenty-fourteen, Rich man had fell.
It’s a time I remember, oh so well.
(*American Statistical Association, **only had $ 45 million from the “Rich man”, Bill Gates)
The night they drove statricksy down
And all the bells were ringing,
The night they drove statricksy down
And all the people were singing
They went, “Na,na,na.na,
Na na na na na na na na na.”
Back with my colleague, Raj Chet-ty, when one day he called to me,
“Thomas, quick, come see, there goes the Gatesly Billee!”
Now I don’t mind I’m choppin’ stats, and I don’t care if I’m paid by the brats
You take what you need and leave the rest,
But they should never have taken the VAMmy best.
The night they drove statricksy down
And all the bells were ringing,
The night they drove statricksy down
And all the people were singing
They went, “Na,na,na.na,
Na na na na na na na na na.”
Like my “Father”*** before me, I will work the VAM
And like my colleague before me, I took a junk-stat stand.
He was just 34, proud and brave,
but the ASA put him in his grave.
I swear by the mud below my feet
You can’t raise a Kane back up when he’s in defeat
(***William Sanders, Father of VAM)
The night they drove statricksy down
And all the bells were ringing,
The night they drove statricksy down
And all the people were singing
They went, “Na,na,na.na,
Na na na na na na na na na.”
The night they drove statricksy down
And all the bells were ringing,
The night they drove statricksy down
And all the people were singing
They went, “Na,na,na.na,
Na na na na na na na na na.”

He’s the best in the business!

I LOVE reading his comment poems; humor is among the best ways to cope with the stress related to all the issues in education these days.

Sorry, I couldn’t help myself.
Some Dam Poet would have done a much better job with this bit of info from the autocrat Pub-Ed test crazy corporate for-profit, fraudster reformers, but …
it came in the mail yesterday
a “na, na” note
local adult-ed center pamphlet
landed with a clink
and a clunk,
fluttering along with the junk mail,
listing seasonal courses
in a Red Cloud
page 3 shouted

Is he on strike or is it a temporary boycott? I think he’s angling for vision and dental coverage. Mr. Dam Poet is not only a great poet but he also produces some great one liners and zingers. It’s impossible to stay away from this blog for any length of time.
To quote Al Pacino as Michael Corleone in one of the God Father films: “Just when I thought I was out… they pull me back in.” We will pull SDM back in.

Poet left after commenting on the election, after July 26th.
My impression was that the great blog poet was frustrated — as were many of us Bern or Busters — that so many people were intolerant of any desire to support Dr. Jill Stein, or not to vote at all. I have been on Poet watch ever since, guiltily fearing that I, in my equal distaste for voting for Trump or Clinton, might have egged Poet on, adding to the frustration. It weighs heavily on me every day.
I stopped commenting on that day, July 26th for a long while, after commiserating with Poet over some commenters being called trolls for disparaging Hillary. I was livid at the time. I had little intention of letting myself get “pulled back in.” Now I feel terrible. I wish I could just tell Poet I came back. I wish I knew Poet’s email address. I would express hope Poet is OK, and renew my wish to rejoin with Poet in fighting the powerful powers that be, Hillary or not. I’m crying while I write this.
Poet, please come back. Save me.

Thank you SDP for an amazingly accurate description of VAM business as statiSCAM.
IMHO, you have taken Dr. Ravitch’s strategy in:
“You advance one step at a time. Sometimes you make a strategic retreat, so you live to fight another day.”
Therefore, you have been retreated. You are the freedom fighter for justice in Public Education. Whenever you stop motivating all educators in this website, you help VAM business thriving.
I hope that you will come back and PATIENTLY fight back all bozos in statiSCAM of VAM business, alongside with Dr. Ravitch and all contributors in this website.
We must unite to win this battle once for all for all American younger generations to appreciate what it takes to live in a truthfully democratic society = OPT OUT MOVEMENT WITH PEACE AND DETERMINATION.
Thank you for your talent in poetic skills and your come-back to fight along with all of conscientious educators in this website.
Respectfully yours,
May

In l958, Kahn wrote me (Rachelle Horowitz) from Los Angeles.
It was a bleak day and he missed being in the East.
He quoted from Hamlet:
If thou didst ever hold me in thy heart
Absent thee from felicity awhile
And in this harsh world draw thy breath in pain
It is weird that in 1978, 20 years after Kahn missed being in the East, I was dreaming to be in the West while I was in first shipwreck in China Sea.
I am sure that all naive people who put their lives in trust of communism, or CAPITALISM WITHOUT BEING CONSIDERATE FOR THE UNFORTUNATE, would die with regret.
The best method to detect all manipulations and lies is to observe, to listen and to critically analyze con artist, or politician want-to-be leader whether their background in working ethic, in relationship with their spouse, their subordinates and mostly their youth’s involvement of voluntary organizations in social welfare WOULD MATCH their promises or would reflect the opposite of their promises.
