Donald Trump doesn’t like the Washington Post. The Washington Post doesn’t like Donald Trump.
Trump has decided that the Washington Post will not be allowed to cover his campaign’s events.
So when Washington Post reporter Jose DelReal showed up as a member of the press at a campaign rally for Mike Pence in Milwaukee, he was denied admission.
When he sought to enter as a citizen, not a member of the press, he was denied admission.
Do you think it is okay for a presidential candidate to bar a member of the press from covering his campaign?
You know, the First Amendment.
It as Harry S Truman who said, “If you can’t stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen.”

Kasich does the same thing in Ohio. Comrade Trump looks more like Nixon or Putin everyday. I wonder at what point does a majority of his supporters say, “this just isn’t right”. Are there that many unhinged people in America?

Some here have criticized the WaPo, but they seem to be the only major media source that is outspoken against Trump.
It would be a great step forward if, in solidarity, if all others sources such as the NY Times, the LA Times, etc., would stop attending Trump/Pence rallies and events, and just give them no credence, no publicity.

Yes. David Brooks, though not my favorite, has refused to endorse Trump. Similarly with George Will. Are there other conservatives speaking out, or are they caving like Ryan or just remaining silent? Would Democrats fall in line in deference to authority if a demagogue took over their party?

Thank you Ellen, that was exactly my thoughts except it should be all media including the Networks and cable Networks . A total blackout of Trump as if he does not exist. With an apology not just a reversal demanded before there was any coverage.
Now seriously Ellen ,you do not think his followers have ever picked up the NY Times or the Washington Post. In the NY Market he would be limited to the Murdoch rag WSJ, NY Post and Fox . But that is still a lot of free coverage he will lose out on.
Of course our Fourth Estate no longer has the integrity to do that.
Except when dealing with progressives like Sanders. Sanders was non existent till his rallies became so large they could not be ignored Locally or Nationally .

The media stage a blackout of coverage of Donnie?
Na ga happen, especially when you consider the immortal (in slightly paraphrased form) words of CBS Chairman Leslie Moonves, who said, “Trump may be bad for America, but he’s great for CBS.”

Trump will continue to spout off his ignorant opinions because as he recently said, “All press is good press.”
No matter how outrageous, he needs media attention and loves all of it.

This is not unexpected from Trump.
Another reason why I will not vote for him.
This is not to say that banning reporters from campaign events is the only form of censorship operating in political and media landscape.

This is not exactly a fair fight. The press has throughout this presidential campaign favored the democratic party and, whether it is liked or disliked, has not been truly fair to any campaign but the Clinton campaign. While freedom of the Press is a paramount right, objectivity in that same press is expected and, when not treated as such, it can easily be understood why the Trump campaign, or any other any other campaign [Sanders], present or future, treated under the same auspices, could react in this manner.

If Trump doesn’t want to deal with the press, then he should not have run for the presidency. The press is not going away, we’re still a democracy with a free press. We can quibble all day about whether we are a democracy or not or whether we have a truly free press. We’re a democracy/republic (representative democracy, democratic republic) in the thrall of billionaire capitalists. Maybe we are already a plutocracy and several large corporations control the media. That’s a definite discussion…….Chris Hedges would blow me out of the water.
A huge chunk of the GOP, from the top 1% to ordinary working stiffs, can’t stand Trump.

Stan, are you aware of how many hours of free publicity Trump got from the press? The one who legitimately can complain is Bernie Sanders. The main stream media didn’t give him any attention. Hillary got much less than Trump and it was mostly negative.
The media favored making money and Trump, for many months, was a money maker. Citizens were anxious to read about his most recent obnoxious comment.
Now, the press is truly worried because he is a candidate for President and he is totally unfit for the office. I read a Time magazine interview recently and Trump admits that he uses intuition to make decisions. He doesn’t need to read or study anything because his intuitions are so good.

Stan…it is obvious that you do not read the LA Times which has given Trump endless column inches…pages and pages…of free publicity lo these many months. The have come around to recognizing his many failures as a human being and as a candidate, and they have published editorials focused on this primal behavior.

I’m sure Trump has recently read the Constitution, and circled in gold sharpie things that must be changed, or just ignored.

Republicans don’t care what the Constitution says; it’s just a totem to brandish. Same with the Bible: they have only the sketchiest grasp of its contents and frequently interpret it to mean the diametric opposite of what it says, but it doesn’t matter. It serves as a fetish, a magic relic and rallying point. David Brooks said it well recently: the whites are more loyal to their tribe than to the country. That’s why many of them feel more affinity for Putin, a white, Christian, Muslim-bashing tough guy, than our president and government, which they view as the anti-Christ. Trump brilliantly exploits this phenomenon, which I see in the working class white community where I work: many American whites adore Putin. Really. Our schools need to reckon with the fact that they’ve failed to instill civic religion strong enough to counteract the tribal impulse.

Clearly, Trump is used to calling the shots in his corporate world. What he doesn’t seem to understand is the political world is very different. Should he become president (scary thought!) he will constantly be under scrutiny by the public, the press, world leaders, and even members of his own party. If he can’t bear the thought of a Washington Post reporter covering a teeny-tiny campaign rally, what will be do when he and his policies are the focus of attention on much bigger issues? Banning a reporter from a public event is more than a slippery slope. It should be viewed by Americans as an out-of-control luge run. Could the USA be so fortunate as to have him hit a wall of his own making?
