Tomorrow the US Senate will vote on the appointment of John King as Secretary of Education. He failed as the Commissioner of Education in Néw York. His rapid adoption of Common Core and teacher evaluation based on test scores led to a massive parent opt out. He battled parents to impose his agenda. He is no different from Arne Duncan.

You’re right, he is no better than Arne Duncan, but at least everyone is aware of his misdeeds! There will be a new Secretary of Ed soon enough with an election looming, so I’m thinking that John King, even with all of his faults, is probably less of a distraction for the Opt Out Movement. Just my opinion….and it could always be worse!

These folks are exactly as bad as and against us as the reformers.
Never expect different.
They are also not so stupid as to not realize that doing the whole “call your senator” thing at this late stage of the King thing is pretty close to pointless.
King is the Commissioner of Ed.
Let that go.
He was allowed to survive in NY because we’ve lost our bearings and fail to realize that the only way to win is to actually be out for blood and destroy these folks politically. We thought that simply exposing his incompetence and ridiculousness was enough. We thought we were in a debate and that we won. King won.
NYSUT should have rendered him political ground beef. But they didnt. Don’t know how anymore.
King is our fault.

Perhaps I missed it here, but I have not seen a comment on the cowardly role that King played in the destruction of the East Ramapo public schools by a school board controlled by Ramapo’s Hassidic leadership.
Two separate groups of monitors have recommended that a monitor with veto power be created by the state legislature to protect our public school students.
For years King ignored letters and petitions from our public parents pleading with him to take a strong stand in support of public education in East Ramapo where almost all students are from racial and cultural minorities.
