Mike Klonsky writes that Rahm breathed a deep sigh of relief when he realized that the Justice Department intended to focus its investigation solely on the Police Department, not on individuals (like the Mayor).
The Chicago gang will gather round and protect Rahm. This won’t be an easy task as his poll numbers have dropped to 18% approval.

18%?
Ouch.
That’s Dick Cheney in 2008 territory.

Is it at all relevant how many Gulen charter schools are being protected? I have found the issues of over reaction to dangers from islam, as well as union busting and the 2500 teachers from Turkey—a country 98% islam, with a dictator who now seems to be hostile to Gulen impossible to sort out. Add the lawsuit by Turkey, which hired the Amsterdam firm to handle it………..when citizens are told—-do not condemn all moslems due to the irresponsible actions of a tiny minority fraction, but do report things which seem suspicious……..what is the right thing to do regarding the Gulen schools?

Joe, I don’t care about Gulen schools because they are associated with an imam. I care about them because I distrust the transfer of responsibility for schooling from the community to corporate charter chains. I am also very skeptical about any foreign entity being funded to run American “public” schools. What’s wrong with that picture?

Diane’s answer helps me try to sort things out. The 2500 Turkish teachers still makes me wonder….sorry I wrote moslem instead of muslim or imam.

My heart just sank when Obama hired Rahm. I knew then that nothing in DC would change.
I felt kind of sorry for the younger voters who weren’t familiar with him, like they should have been given a head’s up of certain KEY Democratic retreads to watch for 🙂

Apparently the Mayor has no connection to either the public schools or the police agencies in the city. I think his job is to issue payments to contractors. We could replace these people with a competent accounting firm, and we might come out ahead. Let’s just privatize the whole works and be done it. Skip the politician middleman.

I am not sympathetic to Rahm and how he has totally messed up in Chicago. From destroying public schools to turning his head while the police department runs rough shod over Black young males. Then he gets up in a news conference and apologizes and tries to cry. Well, for all the obstruction of justice he did in refusing to release video that would indict the police department, he’s as guilty as they are and he needs to resign along with the commmand staff of the Chicago police department.

Funny how the Feds are Johnny on the spot in Chicago, first with the school district and now with the police department. Hey, DOJ, FBI, Obama, can Los Angeles get some attention. We have just as much corruption and illegalities as Chicago. Who do we have to pay off to get some oversight here?

But, as Klonsky is pointing out, the feds are not really here to investigate or prosecute. They’re here to put on a good show, “restore trust” and cover Rahm’s glaringly naked backside.
