Bernie’s closing on Clinton and Hillary needs to take note. If she tries to co opt him on some issues, she better be sincere. These young voters want a different way of conducting politics. Hillary might be too connected to break from the fold. So far, Bernie has the attention.

Bernie Sanders wowed LA yesterday. It was a mob scene of around 18,000, and most were young people 18 – 36. The game is never over until the game is over.

It was close to 28,000 – the sports arena holds about 28,000 and it was full and with an overflow -my brother went and he said the crowd was incredible and the enthusiasm was great.

I think Trump will win. He speaks the truth, and he isn’t purchased. He is the only one who has talked about bringing back the factories that have been outsourced. The elites are attacking public schools because there isn’t enough tax revenue. He will close the border. We have enough people to assimilate. We don’t need more illegals. Trump hates the common core. He will let the states do their own thing with education. What is Hillary? She is a power-hunger creature with no charm or connection. Bernie Sanders is so weak that he let those two girls take his microphone. I would have shoved them right off the stage. Doesn’t he have security? That was absolutely revolting. That was reminiscent of that guy who took the mike away from Taylor Swift. I used to be a Democrat, but after Obama, it’s over. We don’t need $15 minimum wage, we need good, high paying factory jobs back in our country. We need to deal with the 320 plus million people in this country. Trump is going to win! Believe it!

I can see you are a man, Steve. I’m sorry that you don’t seem to have a problem with the horribly misogynistic things Trump has been saying. It is not the “truth.” It’s garbage, and it needs to be called out. He has alienated half of the electorate.

I posted a comment about a poll on another thread. I was regurgitating a TV commentator’s analysis. That was wrong of me. These polls paint a much different picture.

Are you teacher, or just parent?
Have you read or heard of a story “a fox and a bird”? In this story, fox keep saying what bird loves to hear in order to EAT bird’s meal.
In the same vein, Trump keeps saying what people love to hear in order to be elected and to destabilize America.
Can people open eyes to see how Trump operates his hotel business? And how does he bully workers in his own entertainment show business? Can Trump intelligently and candidly debate his WOULD_BE_POLICY in economy, defense, and public education if he would be elected?
Trump did not SHOW a respect for any partners, especially for female partner.
I live in Canada. Trump successfully married Miss Canada, (Maple?) for less than one year because he was a sponsor for that event. Miss Maple took one million dollars from Trump as per his prenuptial agreement for a divorce WITHOUT disclosing details of reasons for a divorce to media.
American people will be doomed if leadership is a businessman who treats people and country resources like TRANSACTION without human conscience.
Hello every “”Presidential candidate””
Where would you go if American Democracy collapses? To the moon?
All communist or fascist generals/commanders/leaders escape their own countries to emigrate to America, or Canada = North America, because they can enjoy a protection from humanity and democracy. Back2basic

I am a teacher, and I disagree. We need someone who can make good trade deals with Mexico and China and who isn’t beholden to the large corporations. That is why the Republicans fear him. Bush, Walker, Clinton..all of them are bought and purchased. Obama was heavily financed by Wall Street and that is why no bankers went to prison. Open your eyes! Why did Clinton go to Trump’s wedding? He told her she should go. He paid money to her campaign. He is showing you the system. Politicians are bought ant paid for. They aren’t do what is in the best interest of its citizens anymore (if they ever did…) If America doesn’t start bringing these companies and their factories back, then it is over. Forget $15 an hour and forget health care. Who can raise a family on $15 an hour? What a joke! I wouldn’t vote for Walker or Bush, but I will vote for Trump. We all know what we are getting with Hillary. Sanders also appears to be honest, but is too weak to handle the problems we face. Ironically Trump and Sanders are the only real choices.
I actually think that we as a country are doomed with anyone but Trump. Sanders is OK, but he is not tough enough to build a fence, or force companies back. Think about it.

In the debate, Bush said he didn’t support Commoner’s Core (still waiting for Aristocrat’s Core) but supported standardized testing by states anyway. Trump was standing next to him and he nodded his head in agreement.
I like that the only candidates gathering fervent attention are the ones not so secretly funded. Trump versus Sanders 2016 would send a powerful message to the Gates, the Broads, and the Waltons of the world.
That said, as a teacher I believe that bragging and bullying behaviors among students AND presidential hopefuls betray weakness not strength.

Trump has about as much chance being elected as Batman, but what I enjoy is seeing his constant criticism of the other candidates. If the press was doing this and actually challenging candidates on policy and not lobbing game show questions, Trump would lose much of his thunder. I saw on PBS Newshour a graphic delving into the national issue of what color ties worn at the debate (of course, no necklaces, earrings, or scarves – the GOP way). Really. Plus Trump overshadows Kasich who has a similar misanthropic personality and would also be a disaster as president.
Trump isn’t a leader, he is a ruler. The CEO types are not used to having to work in a democracy with checks and balances. They have the Jean-Luc Picard syndrome – “make it so, Number One”. Kasich this week wants to abolish the election of state school board members and have them all appointed by him. Democracy is an inconvenience to these guys. I do hope Trump wins the GOP nomination or goes third party as he will ultimately self-destruct and the Dems will walk into the presidency.

To Steve, I think that you are teacher whose mindset is convincingly manipulated by Trump. Therefore, the majority of working class will be no better.
Steve, please take a good look at Michelle Rhee whose words and consequences regarding her promise about education reform like CCSS. Now, please take a look at new NYS Commissioner Mary Ellen Elia’s words and her past result as being Superintendent of Hillsborough, Florida. Would you be able to critically analyze Trump’s ability, capability, and human conscience in his past deeds? Could he be President of America? Would American people be ready for 21st century President without healthy BODY – MIND – SPIRIT?
How can a teacher cultivate student in civility, but he would vote a President-to-be who disrespect for women and minority? Trump’s empire is built on minority force of labor. Back2basic

The huge crowds for Bernie Sanders sure are interesting. I think people know the system is corrupt, and that’s what he’s saying.
Honestly, though, I hope young people keep their money rather than donate to any national candidate. They’ll need any money they can save much more than Sanders or Clinton or Trump or Bush ever will. All the candidates are either financially secure or wealthy. Not true of small donors, especially young people. Since we’re never getting a large donor boycott because obviously buying a politician is a great investment for these billionaires, maybe the only leverage available to the rest of us is a small donor boycott.
It’s not like we can compete on donations with billionaires anyway. Maybe stop trying to compete on the money= speech field, which is rigged, and try something else?

Sanders is not even remotely close to being in the same class financially as the others.

He’s about in the same financial class as Obama was when he was elected. Probably even better off.
I think Sanders is far and away the best of the major candidates at this point (Jill Stein would be even better, but she has far less of a chance). But let’s not delude ourselves. Sanders has been a U.S. Representative and a U.S. Senator for far too long to be considered an ordinary Joe.

Sanders charges around $600 for a speaking arrangement, basically enough to cover travel and lodging costs, where Clinton charges tens or hundreds of thousands to speak at some location. Sanders flies on regular airlines with everyone else, economy class, and has a net worth around $330,000.
He needs ordinary citizens to donate what they can, because of course he needs money for his campaign. It goes to paying staff, running websites, producing videos and other campaign materials like buttons, flyers, and so on. The campaign is ongoing, so it needs to be funded for over a year. Sanders knows he will not even be close to the other candidates when it comes to financial funding, but his strategy is to make social media the mainstream media — which has been working — so that’s one of many reasons why he won’t need to spend as much as the others. But he still probably couldn’t run a successful campaign without small donations for ordinary citizens.

And WHO charges tens of thousands to speak? Answer: Hillary and the others. OY!

I’m still trying to wrap my head around Trump’s outrageous denigration of John McCain’s military service to our country. What? (And, I’ve never been a big fan of McCain.) Add to that Trump’s caveman-like attitudes to women on top of some of his other nutty ideas. Wow.
But, you know, people talk about Donald Trump as if he is some sort of anomaly. I don’t think so at all. I think Trump is the natural progression of a mindset that has been evolving (and festering) within the Republican Party for decades. It’s this idea of victimization. That’s how my wife describes it.
Too many Republicans like to claim that they’re all about being tough, taking responsibility, this whole rugged individualism, self-made “grit” schtick. But then they constantly whine about the media being controlled by liberals and academia being controlled by liberals and boo hoo hoo….poor us…we’re such victims, Then they use that imagined victimization as a result to go out and stomp all over whoever their perceived opponents are today. Bill O’Reilly’s antics come to mind, for example.
So, there’s Trump the other night, whining about how the reporter on Fox news was attacking him, being unfair to him….poor Donald the victim.. Then, he just uses his own babyish behavior as a reason to further go on the offensive.
C.mon, people like Trump control the money, they control the system. They are not victims. How about considering the huge numbers of children who live in poverty in our country. Where did they figure into this so called Republican “debate”?
Republicans should do themselves a favor and cast out Donald Trump. Tell him to hit the road along with all the other haters that have found a haven in their party. I know too many Republicans I respect. Call Trump’s bluff and get rid of the guy. And, stop the whining.

Good point. Trump is the monster modern conservatism created. And the genie is out of the bottle. This Republican mindset of anti-woman, anti-worker, anti-gay, anti-teacher, anti-family, anti-heath care, anti-middle class, anti-minority, anti-immigrant, anti-woman, anti-thought, anti-woman, is a big reason I left the GOP. The party just started to sour and moderates no longer are allowed in the big tent. In Ohio, as soon as Kasich took over, he purged the GOP of moderates like Kevin DeWine and muzzled the rest who cower in fear.
So yesterday, I am behind a 20-something is a rickety Jeep. The bumper is covered with stickers decrying socialism as evil and something about taking other people’s money, everyone should be on their own, etc. I was behind the Jeep on the way home – just as he turned into a public city park driving through a state and federally funded road improvement project calling on his cell phone with government invented internet. I think he may have even had a Trump window cling, not sure.
