Jeb Bush created an organization called “Chiefs for Change,” comprised of state superintendents who shared his views about vouchers, charters, high-stakes testing, accountability, VAM, and digital learning. Then, as members lost their elections and their jobs, the Chiefs shrank from nine to four. Not what you would call a show of force. To avoid meeting in a very small room, the Chiefs decided to open their ranks to include district superintendents. Its newest members are Chris Barbic, who runs the little all-charter Achievement School District in Tennessee, and Mike Miles, superintendent of the Dallas Independent School District. Dale Erquiaga, the new state chief in Nevada, also joined. Deborah Gist, a long-time member, will not have to give up her membership when she moves from being state superintendent of Rhode Island to superintendent in Tulsa.
OMG … Jeb never fails to dissapoint me, and diss this country FOR PROFIT. Chiefs for Change? How about Cheifs for GREED and REPRESSION.
If life gives you lemons, make lemonade.
¿?
Jeb Bush is actively recruiting from the rheephorm version of the “Dance of the Lemons.”
And it ain’t pretty.
😎
So Miles has three years if declining test scores, multiple charges of ethics violations, and yet this total failure is a Chief for Change? Insane! No Accountability for these grifters!
This is another pile of horse manure from arrogant, blind Jeb Bush. He is so out of touch I don’t see how anyone can follow him down a rabbit hole other than his like minded opportunists.
Like minded opportunists is right @retired teacher…..Both our Supt. and our Gov. here in NV. Could they possibly be looking (dreaming) of VP and Sect. of Ed?? It’s a mess here in NV. An overwhelming mess. A plea to all of you that read this blog….help us. Please.
they sound a lot more like lemmings than lemons– maybe it should be renamed Supes and Chiefs for Accountability Manipulation (SCAM).
Given how most school boards kow-tow to their superintendents, Jeb may well take “local” control over all the schools. This is just wrong.
Thank you for keeping the names of those helping to orchestrate the destruction of public education in the public’s sight line.
‘Change’ in politics is almost always implicitly about eradicating inequalities. The deformers are pretty clearly institutionalizing inequality while claiming they are doing the opposite.
Open the “ranks” is right.
How rank can it get is the primary question.
If at the height of “Chiefs” they only had nine members, one has to wonder why we paid so much attention to them. It is amazing how much power a small group of very wealthy people can wield and what some people will do to get or stay in their good graces.
Years ago when I lived in an apartment building we had a “Super” who was in charge of the building.
Think he might be eligible for Jeb’s group?
The very sad truth is, ANY OF THE PRIOR OR NEW BAND OF JEBITES WOULD SERVE Hillary Clinton well as Secretary of Education (or even replace Arnold).
Obama fooled many, ask more this time!!!
While the ASD has not added a direct-run school in two years,it’s not all charter. There are about half a dozen run directly by the district. They also have some of the poorest performance and have continuous leadership changes, some mid-year. My guess is that they use this to argue the strengths of charter and convert all of them in 2 to 3 years. If the ASD’s failure doesn’t get it disbanded first.
The ASD is a thinly veiled attempt to replicate the RSD in Tennessee without a a natural disaster
I guess our Nevada Superintendent wants to show his bona fides! Our legislation just passed two bills. One will create a charter school run takeover called and Achievement School District. (How original). Also, a bill allowing vouchers to private schools passed. Nevada may be the last reformy place in the country years from now.
