Researchers organized by Kevin Kumashiro, Dean of the University of San Francisco School of Education, have created a petition to oppose high-stakes testing. It is addressed to Congress.
Read about it here in Valerie Strauss’s “Answer Sheet” and, if you agree, add your name.

1207 researchers have signed to date.
Please spread the word & encourage Real Experts to join the cause – not those who play one on the radio, TV or Twitter?
Our children, their parents and the profession are under siege.
We must stop the decimation and abuse!

I signed as retired/adjunct U. Mass but I don’t know if they will accept a “retired” signature; I try to stay up to date in everything especially the extreme policies of Arne Duncan and Mitchell Chester and the corporate take-over… Thanks to everyone here ; Diane, Duane, Lloyd, Bob Shepherd and others… and Jack Hassard (art of teaching blog) is very inspirational and resourceful… Edushyster sent me 3 personal emails on Sunday….. and I appreciate these resources — mostly people I found reading here…

Yes, retired & emeritus faculty are listed. It may take a couple of days for names to appear on the list.

Apologies for the redundancy, if another commenter reported that Southern Law Center Board member, Marie Grobark, was the Senior Program Officer for Education, at the Gates Foundation, for 10 years. Small World.

Correction to post. Marie Groark’s board membership is on the SPLC, Student Press Law Center, which describes its issues in this way, “America’s public schools and colleges …shun public input and accountability. ….Well-trained student journalists are kicking open the doors of wrong doers.” I saw no mention of charter school obfuscations at the site. I’ve made an inference about Gates’ view of public schools, from the 10-year tenure of Ms. Groark at Gates and, the bias at the SPLC website.

Great job opportunity in Fullerton California for a Superintendent who wants to work in one of the best districts in the nation. Please apply. We do not want to repeat the same mistakes of Florida. We are just beginning the testing process and we have a Governor who is on record of NOT BEING IN FAVOR OF NATIONAL TESTING.

I signed, hopefully they’ll include it as I was an Adjunct Professor for 12 years (hot damn!).

Kudos to the administrators and researchers who signed the letter…Mr Cuomo…when a brilliant educational mind such as Dr Zevin of Queens College of CUNY, opposes high stakes testing, you best listen…his advice is priceless, and worth much more than the “contributions” you receive from the privatization movement…A true leader is one who stands up and speaks out against injustice. A leader who unknowingly defends false data may be found to be guilty of negligence…one who defends false data intentionally to support themselves and/or private interests may be culpable of fraud…Without twisted words or manipulative speeches, Mr Cuomo, the people of New York demand an honest answer…which of the two are you guilty of?
