The Progressive has become a leading journal covering the new world of corporate-style education, where data, high-stakes testing, and free-market ideology are the hot policy ideas.
Be sure to watch this hilarious video.
And be sure to read the story about Profit-Ship here.

…and of course, part of the strategy to increase market share and profits of one’s business is to make your competitors look inferior. So, develop a CC curriculum and tests that are so developmentally inappropriate (heck, many adults would fail high school questions about inferring author’s intent, etc.) that they make it look like public schools are doing a poor job; in order to provide a rationale for a more “free” market approach (aka: eventually “enslave” the public in charter schools).
If all I do is make “widgets” and I make fewer of them because the quality of the incoming ore (mental capabilities developed to their potential) is less than it was 50 yrs ago (due to the effects of increasing divorce rates, increasing poverty, class favoritism, issue of injustice and oppression, etc.); then, maybe the problem is where the ore is created, not variables within the classroom?

Gross, most gross. I just keep shaking my head and wondering, “WHO ARE these PEOPLE, who are just so greedy, mean, and out of touch.
Yes, Diane, the DEFORMERS want WIDGETS…no threat of thinking and action.
Plus the DEFORMERS refuse to address POVERTY, despite the numerous studies about the huge impact Poverty has on well…EVERYONE…even those who have gated communities. I mean…really…Gated Communities are jails.

Great video, I’m definitely sharing this one! It’s amazing (and distubring) how charters market themselves so well that very few people are questioning motives or their effects on children. It’s troubling here in MA that not enough people are looking beneath the surface and many are “falling for” their sales pitches.

Well-crafted video. Just forwarded this to several Ohio BATS, also two members of Ohio’s Board of Education, one assuming office in January, the other meeting tomorrow on the proposed changes in “operating rules.”

Mark Fiore is the best! His work was one of the few things I could have a good laugh over – with a wince here and there – during the Bush error.
