When Karen was well, she read this blog every day. Sometimes she left comments. I hope she is reading this now and feeling the love that we are sending her.
Robert Rendo writes this to Karen:
“Karen,
“My wife and I are both public school teachers, and we cannot tell you enough how much we love and respect you. You will pull through this because you are enveloped by love, energy, and the will of the rest of us who you have inspired, catalyzed, and lead.
“You are a national figure, but you feel as though you are right here at our kitchen table or on our sofas in our living rooms. You are family to us advocates.
“Know that you are loved and that love and good always triumph over evil . . . “

Diane and Robert, as always you two have the incredible ability to put feelings into words,
The numbers of us out here who feel lost and upset and angry and confused and depressed and sad because of the news about Karen is beyond count.
We all hope and pray that the Love and profound respect that we all have for Karen will help give her the added strength she needs
And we call on whatever forces there are in this universe to come help and support our friend and hero,

For once, Jonathan, I am not putting out my usual angry, black humor vitriol and sometimes too intense sarcasm against the 2%.
Karen deserves everything we can give her. . . . and more. She is brave, individual, an original, risk taking, articulate, and just plain right for what this whole country needs.
I truly know that she is not anywhere done with this world yet. . . . it is in her and all our energetic paths. . . . and I wax not religious at all.
She will get through this. And many a phoenix will rise through the ash to create a better, dignified world for all . . . .

As much as I would like to see her back fighting the good fight, the mother part of me wants Karen to snuggle down in a cozy quilt in front of a blazing fire and fuel those healing juices. I wish her husband is given all the strength he will need to support Karen and that he gets all the support from friends and family that he will need. Since they are obviously striving to maintain a sense of privacy, I hope that they are left alone when they need solitude and quietly supported in every way they need it. Peace and prayers.

Some thoughts on Karen Lewis:
Horrors! Is nature pulling the cruelest joke possible! Here we have a strong leader who is one of leading education heroes in our nation leading us toward “educational health” in a system that truly has a most lethal cancer – “ed reform”. And now she winds up getting brain cancer while about to run for office against of all people – Rahm Emmanuel. THIS IS CRUELTY AT BEST. I bring this beyond the personal level for her because she is an extraordinary person whose actions are capable of positively effecting SO MANY LIVES. There has got to be a reason for this recent news… one that will bring us forward in all this mess right now. This would be “music to Karen Lewis’s ears”… knowing that this horrible news of her illness could possible accelerate positive change in education for the good somehow.
When bad things happen to “above and beyond” extraordinary people, does this clarify the actions for the followers of people like Lewis and propel them to action in equally extraordinary ways???? This would be the best medicine for her.
