Well, I gave you an update on the latest episode in the Louisiana battle over Common Core. But of course I don’t know as much as Mercedes Schneider, who teaches in the state and stays abreast of the latest news and gossip.
So here is the scoop, from the inside.
Who will sue whom?
What tests will be used?
Will the governor beat the superintendent that he once loved and the board he appointed?

Chaos continues to be Zeitgeist, not only in Louisiana, but in our mainstream society . Current psychosocial dynamics are indicators that our social decline is leading to totalitarianism. Cultural dystrophic expressions are signs of where this increasing social dysfunction is taking us. The increasing signs of mental health distress in children, as well as society’s scapegoating of children, should be a clue.
“no man can surpass his own time, for the spirit of his time is also his own spirit.” Georg Hegel
Is this social imbalance a result of too many people in the US becoming “reactors”, and now functioning in a “survival” mode (primitive brain) after decades of traumatic stress from insecurity, distrust in authority, isolation, poverty, economic woes, wars, and overall fear. “Reactors” are conditioned with “impulsive and compulsive behaviors” in childhood from invalidating environments of “authoritarianism” (bullying behaviors). Personality disorders have become too “normal” in US mainstream society, and our country is now functioning with Traumatic Stress Disorder, like that of “Covert Narcissistic Families”.
My opinion is that we need to put our tax money and resources into recognizing and intervening in our social dysfunction, rather than perpetuating it with more “bullying” behaviors, denial, and avoidance.

….and this “intervention” should begin with “healing” our children by giving them “safe havens” at school…..not more “bullying” and “indoctrination”.

….original comment should have read…..”distrust of authority”….not distrust in authority.

Joyce, I always look forward to your comments and hope your insight might eventually help rattle some cages. The attached article on your comment reinforced my belief that others outside our dysfunctional system might help break through our denial and bring us back to reality. I especially zeroed in on this one paragraph of truth:
For all the positive qualities of Western societies, most of their people do not believe life is getting better [Eckersley 2005, 2009a, 2011a). In contrast to their high levels of personal happiness and life satisfaction, many studies over the past few decades have revealed people’s anger and anxiety about the changes in Western societies. The concerns include excessive greed and selfishness, consumerism, too much competition and too little compassion, the loss of community, growing pressures on families, and drugs, crime and violence. There is a common perception that with individual freedom and material abundance, people don’t seem to know where to stop, or now have too much of a good thing.”

Nailed it…….
“people don’t seem to know where to stop, or now have too much of a good thing.”
This is a result of the winner/loser pedagogy of insanity that prevails…like….Race to the Top!
The obsession with performance and data, while neglecting and ignoring children’s social and emotional development and authentic ways of learning, is causing this social “mental illness”.
This is what happens when we put a basketball “coach” as leader of DOE.
This is what happens when we let billionaires buy out and control our schools and our government.

I think Roemer and White are about to get reminded how much power the law affords the Louisiana governor. That it one reason why we all should choose our next one wisely.
