A blogger has been looking for Governor Cuomo’s running mate. It seems she is a strong supporter of gun rights but not a friend to immigrants. The trick for Cuomo is to let her talk in conservative districts upstate but keep her under wraps in New York City and the liberal suburbs.
Perdido Street School writes:
“Where in the world is former US Rep. Kathy Hochul?
“The one-time Buffalo-area congresswoman known for her strong support of gun ownership rights and her fervid opposition to giving state privileges to illegal aliens has all but disappeared from public view since Gov. Cuomo picked her in May as his running mate for lieutenant governor.
“Key state Democrats told The Post that Cuomo has ordered Hochul “kept under wraps,’’ in the words of one, to prevent her more conservative views from upending his re-election campaign among liberal New York City Democrats, especially Hispanics.
“No extended interviews, no press conferences, no TV or radio appearances, no nothing. It’s like she’s under lock and key,’’ said a senior elected Democrat.
“Hochul, who received a top rating from the National Rifle Association when she ran for Congress and strongly opposed former Gov. Eliot Spitzer’s efforts to grant driver’s licenses to illegal aliens when she was Erie County clerk, was chosen by Cuomo as part of his aggressive effort to win over Western New York voters.”

Actually that was a Fred Dicker column from the NY Post from last week that detailed how the Cuomo campaign is keeping Hochul under wraps because of her right wing stances on gun control & immigration.
But we did find Hochul this week – she surfaced to support Common Core and wondered why the issue is so “divisive”.

Astorino, his challenger, took heat for comparing her to the lost Asian airliners, who wondered, which will turn up first.

Without gun rights supporters, Hochul had almost no chance of hanging onto her rural district, which was redistricted to exclude Erie County that still harbors a few Democratic and union-friendly voters. She lost anyway to Chris Collins, who is a “Republi-Con”.

With an “A” rating from the National Rifle Association, and a vocal opposition to support for undocumented New York State residents, Ms. Hochul is quite the “Republican lite.” Cuomo probably won’t ask her to disavow this profile. Why should any progressive Democrat support him? Let him squeak by without our help.

Quite amazing that Cuomo won the Working Families Party line yet chose a conservative for his running mate. How does WFP explain that? I will vote for Zephyr Teachout in the Democratic primary.

Zephyr Teachout also has my vote. I have sent her a check. I hope many others do too.

I love Zephyr! I have a feeling something good’s about to happen for NYS.

Cuomo needs her precisely because of his gun-control legislation. The S.A.F.E. act is wildly, wildly unpopular upstate. I imagine Hochul will not be allowed to campaign anywhere south of the Catskills.

It’s amazing how far extremists will go to fool voters, because most voters are not extremists. The largest block of the regular voters are moderate, progressive, middle class, mostly educated and highly literate.
And for the extremists like Cuomo, this means fooling them takes a massive effort to mislead—but only for a few weeks running up to an election, and then it is business as usual until the next circus designed to fool voters arrives with the next election.
This is how extremists are taking over government. Of course, it helps when most of the traditional media is controlled and owned by extremists too.

Why is it we don’t want citizens to own guns? And why do we think our borders should be open? Please enlighten me because I don’t understand why we would not want to enforce our immigration laws or why we would deny law abiding citizens the right to defend theselves and their property. Would you also take away the guns of police and soldiers? Of course not. The American model is that the army serves the people it does not rule them. The revolutionary war would have been lost without the citizen soldiers. There is a name for a country where only the police have guns. It is called a police state. And there is a name for a country where open borders allow hundreds of thousands of poor to enter our country each year: “bankrupt”. Good intentions are not enough and you can’t give what you don’t have. Maybe we should start brushing up on our Mandarin or perhaps, more fitting to the country class, Cantonese.

Kathy Houchul is a really good person and a great candidate. She isn’t as extremist as you would believe. She was elected as a Democrat in a very Republican district and did what was widely considered a great job but lost by a narrow margin in another election. The problem is Cuomo. He has no regard for anybody outside of NYC and the surrounding communities. He wooed Rochester’s former Mayor Bob Duffy, who was getting too full of himself and basically ignored him as Lieutenant Governor until the guy began secretly looking for other jobs. And then it came out. Cuomo only thinks of himself and has no regard for others.

I am delighted that we have candidates that will provide and option
