Peter Greene doesn’t understand how the corporate bullies are celebrating their victories over teachers. He can’t understand how they lie about doing it “for the kids.” They talk about equity and social justice as they attack teachers’ hard-won rights, and they know they are making it up.
He writes:
“I mean, bloody hell, guys? Do we all have “stupid” written on our foreheads? Can you not even do me the respect of telling me convincing lies?
“It’s like talking to that kid in the third row who just punched another student in the face and is now sitting there smiling, laughing and saying “I never touched him” with that fish-eating grin that says, “Go on. I’m lying straight to you, and you’re not going to do anything about it because my dad’s on the school board and– oh yeah– you don’t have tenure.”
Historians and history teachers remember the gilded age of the late19th century. Although there were struggles during it to overthrow the power of the oligarchs by populists, progressives, unionists, and sen anarchists, it took the power of a few leaders in government like Wisconsin’s La Follette, NY’s Teddy Roosevel, and New Jersey’s Woodrow Wilsont to lead us out of that era and toward a Progressive one..
Did I just say Wisconsin, NewYork, and New Jersey? I love historical irony.
Just reviewed the late 1790’s industrialization in UK with my son for his history course. The parallels are eriee and alarming.
During the Gilded Age (1870-1900) the United States experienced economic growth averaging about 8% per annum. This was well above the rate of population growth resulting in a large increase in per capita wealth.
Things were so bad in the US during the Gilded Age that millions of immigrants flocked to the country.

How can corporate bullies lie with a straight face?
Practice, Practice, Practice …
Perfect response. The liars have a lot of practice…AROGANCE to the MAX!
Ka-ching. Money…its all about the money. Mo money, mo money, mo money. Never enough money.
Pink Floyd:
Money it’s a gas
Grab that cash with both hands and make a stash
New car, caviar, four star daydream,
Think I’ll buy me a football team.
Think I’ll buy me a school….and manage it….and pay rent back to myself…and get into cahoots with the text book publishers, and the text makers and scorers….and, etc.
HOW CAN YOU TELL WHEN A POLITICIAN IS LYING? HIS LIPS ARE MOVING.
These people have no souls. The Kochs? The Waltons? Etc.?
AND, they are bigots, prejudiced elitists. Some are from old money, perhaps never worked a real day in their lives. Others got lucky at the right time like Gates, even tho history states he was a liar and a thief.
Many of the usual suspects have just been inbred to believe they are better, they deserve the best, and let the rest eat cake. Lies roll off their tongues like its nothing.
These corporate bullies must win no matter what the cost.
I’m still not sure why Dr. Ravitch so often reprints Greene’s hysterical, histrionic, wildly exaggerated posts.
He needs to take his Xanax more often, and then ask himself if everyone who disagrees with him is really doing so out of evil and sinister motives, or if it’s just possible that there are other people in the world who have good faith wishes to help kids in their own ways.
Could you provide a few clear and concrete examples of these so called, “good faith wishes” ? And who are the people you are referring to? And what exactly do you mean by “their own ways”?
Peter Green speaks for many of us in the trenches who are sick and tired of know-nothing, know-it-alls form outside the profession pointing fingers and pontificating as if they somehow have all the answers. What they really have is no clue.
I think WT is simply bickering about anything that doesn’t agree with his/her taste. Typical behavior commonly seen in so called ‘apologists.’ Sometimes it makes me wonder WT stands for “Whining Troll”‘? Oh well.
Can you really look at out at the educational landscape here in the US and claim that Greene’s posts are “hysterical, histrionic, [and] wildly exaggerated”????
Your are either incredibly naïve or full of shit. And based on your previous posts WT, most of the regulars here know the answer. Why don’t you go find a new lake.
Corporate lobbyists and zombie private masters don’t have good faith in helping kids at all; they are using kids as pawns to trump public education. Real culprits responsible for the mess.

Today’s Vergara v. California decision is a major victory in the fight for a quality education for all students:
Boy, the entire DC ed reform crowd are really spiking the football in their big win against teachers.
They haven’t been this excited since they closed 50 public schools in Chicago.
Thank you, Peter Greene.
Peter, you are just blowing off steam? Right? You really do understand the dynamic. The bully knows how the money and the power works. Any lie is acceptable because it will always operate in his defense one way or another. Donna is right, these bullies have no soul and so we must act accordingly.
