Parents in Chicago complained about budget cuts to their schools. CPS blames the cuts on pensions, but parents don’t believe them.
Attorney Matt Farmer warned that parents would go to the streets. He said to CPS officials: “You will hear our voices in your sleep.”

Great story about Clooney. Change the words from movies and entertainment to teachers and public schools, and the same story applies.

George should talk more to Matt, who can tell him about our plights in education, as his mom was a teacher in public schools for many years.

So, the state and city use monies that should have been their contribution to the public service pensions to fund other programs. The teachers in both the city and state have faithfully paid their full share of the pension as part of binding contracts between the state and city and their employees. Now public employees are greedy when they expect the city and state to honor their contracts? They cut experienced teachers and staff, close schools and give money to charters? They fund a stadium for a private university? they sign a contract with TFA for more “teachers” while experienced teachers are being laid off? Can you guess who will benefit from these policies?

Good for the parents who are protesting! I especially like Matt Farmer’s warning to the CPS. Also, by saying “our Voices” he is including himself; not just merely representing the parents for their money.

Parents and all others taking to the streets in all parts of this country would be one of the best things to ever happen in this modern era of American plutocracy.
But I sincerely hope that nothing erupts into violence, and that there will no loss of life or limb on any side of the fence.
What exactly will it take to get our elected officials to represent the true interests of their majority constituents and not their majority campaign financers?
What will it take?

Tim Meegan, a CTU Delegate and NBCT, posted a wonderful opinion piece on the Chicago Sun-Times website: http://www.suntimes.com/news/otherviews/21628237-452/cps-starving-its-schools-to-justify-privatization.html
Tim told me that when he was speaking to the Board of Ed at its July meeting, CPS’ CEO didn’t acknowledge Tim’s presence until he mentioned the Center for Reinventing Public Education (CRPE). I guess she was surprised that he connected the dots.
