Arthur Goldstein, one of Néw York City’s best bloggers, is angry at the online publication “Gotham Schools.”
Goldstein says GS has been too quick to publish the Deep Thinking of Campbell Brown, the former CNN newsreader. Brown believes the teaching corps of NYC is teeming with sexual predators, and she has launched a campaign to find and fire these hidden offenders. She is pushing for new legislation, but her goal is not the legislation but the negative publicity about teachers.
Brown’s husband is on the board of StudentsFirst NY and was an advisor to the Romney campaign.
Interesting that under current law, a teacher would be fired for the same actions engaged in by mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner, as Randi pointed out in a tweet quoted in this post.

I followed the link to the Phoenix police report –it convinces me that Kevin Johnson molested a 16 year old girl. To think that he gets off the hook because of his powerful connections, whereas an ordinary teacher would have his or her reputation and career destroyed by such a report… And to think that the Inspector General was likely fired for attempting to deliver equal justice by prosecuting Johnson… Laws don’t apply to the new aristocracy.

When Kevin Johnson, the former NBA star who is now mayor of Sacramento, was under investigation last year for alleged financial misdeeds and inappropriate behavior with female students, he had an important ally behind the scenes.
Michelle Rhee, the nationally known education reformer who is now head of the Washington, D.C., public schools, had several conversations with a federal inspector general in which she made the case for Johnson and the school he ran in Sacramento, according to the inspector general. Rhee, who had served on the board of the school and is now engaged to marry Johnson, said he was “a good guy.”
Rhee’s position had little effect on the inspector general, Gerald Walpin, who filed a criminal referral to the U.S. attorney on Johnson, a self-described friend and supporter of President Obama. But both the Sacramento police and federal attorneys declined to pursue charges. Walpin, who protested the prosecutors’ handling of the case, was ultimately fired by the Obama White House in June. Hmm, maybe Kevin Huffman, Rhee’s ex, has custody of their children because he refuses to allow them to live under the same roof as a sexual predator like Johnson.
If only he”d be as protective of Tennessee’s K-12 students, who are under assault from so-called reformer privateers.
A fish rots from the head… so if there’s such a concern for sexual predators, why put someone with such terribly questionable behavior in charge? For the love of humanity, it just gets more and more disgusting!
Campbell Brown gets a huge platform because she’s well-connected in media circles. The NYTimes was publishing her ill-informed musings on contraception in the run-up to the 2012 election, although she was obviously and blatantly stumping for Romney. They insist she’s a “journalist” although if you’ve ever watched her work (on her CNN show that was cancelled) you’ll wonder about that job description.
It’s a club, and she’s a member. We’ll be subjected to her opinions on education just as we were subjected to her opinions on contraception. Her opinions will be treated as fact. She’s an expert on everything; disaster relief, the war in Iraq (a war her husband sold dishonestly), public health, contraception, education, you name it. If powerful people are opining on it, she’s there.

In Campbell Brown’s world, you are guilty until proven less guilty (if you are a traditional NYC public school teacher). This sounds like a witch hunt to muzzle and silence the unions and the teachers. She’s like some vigilante on a mission to smear, slime and demonize the unionized teachers of the traditional public schools. Shades of the Salem witch trials or of the 1943 film, The Ox-Bow Incident.
Wondering if this is the advertising I’ve seen on TV coming from ” ParentsTransparency.org?” They claim that Bill deBlasio, John Liu, Bill Thompson, Anthony Weiner, & the UFT & the AFT are not speaking up about 148 sexual predators.
Where and from whom did this group get that “data”? Is this a “Parent Trigger” group? The facts presented in the tv ad is incorrect. How did the New York Board (Department) of Education clear these individuals, via fingerprinting process, to become employed? There’s more questions than definite answers, in my opinion.
Wonder if StudentsFirstNY and ParentsTransparency are related in some way?
Gotham Schools is an news aggregator and stenography service for so-called education reformers, nothing else.
