On spring break, EduShyster went to Florida, the state with the most choice in the nation, and she had a grand time.
Among other things, she giggled over Tom Friedman’s latest effort to display his vast knowledge of education. She traveled with her sister, a teacher, who regaled her with stories of the latest Common Core jargon, and EduShyster updated her sister on the research explaining why she was a bad teacher and at fault for everything wrong in America.
As they traveled Florida’s highways and discovered charter schools in every strip mall, she was reminded of a simple maxim: “Florida has been the source of more grand swindles than any other state.”

It is very common for the public in the U.S. to have a mental lapse disease. How else could anything like this happen in all sectors at one time. Accident, I don’t think so.

Oh! George! You are, as usual, so right!!
Denial and lethargy have for too long ruled the
minds of far too many. But at least we are now
seeing the awakening that you and I, and all those
education advocates and education warriors over so
many years have hoped to witness. No matter the
outcome, although I so hope it is redirected to some
positive for the sake of the children and the future, we
have seen through these early years of technology
sharing an awakening with a connecting of the dots.
George, take heart that there are many who stand on
your shoulders as an amazing researcher and advocate
for a better world. Thank you to you and those that have
stood shoulder to shoulder with you. Diane’s Blog and
others like it have been wonderful vehicles for change
and choice in concert with others. Having the history and
research ready is where some of us stand in this true
civil rights battle for the children and their survival.

I enjoyed this report and I loved the comment with the long “adjectival cluster”. A German friend came to my niece’s wedding and when I explained the throwing of rice (or an environmentally safe alternative) with herbs etc. he remarked “oh, you mean good luck bringing bombs”… and I have treasured that remark and kept it in my memory among the French, Latin, and Russian I had studied when I was much younger. Thanks for helping me to chuckle today.

As a native Floridian and public school teacher, I had to laugh at the comment “Florida has been the source of more grand swindles than any other state.” It is so true! I was reading another article by EDU that showed a promo of some charter school and it’s great teachers. I couldn’t help but think that is was like an infomercial touting the latest great idea to solve all problems. I think like many things in Florida, a lot of our charters will close or be run out of town, and the politicians that allowed them here will slink into the wood work.
