Of course, the ‘chef’ would make more than the teachers to produce sandwiches for the kids. After all, you have to have your priorities straight, right?
Thanks, Diane. It was good for a laugh, after the nausea passed.
This is the sad truth above charters in NJ. I have written and tweeted Christie a couple of times and he has no comment or at least I haven’t heard one. I have asked financing for charters be transparent so taxpayers can see where their money goes and how it is spent. This too gets no response. All the bluster he has about doing the right thing, doesn’t seem to matter when his friends benifit.
For that kind of money, they should do a lot better than cheese sandwiches for lunch but then the chef’s main goal is to minimize costs. Compare this with the french children’s lunch program in the video below.
The sad thing is, if we really cared about our children enough to care about what they’re eating, every school food service manager would be a skilled chef worth that kind of money (and if we really cared about our children enough to care about their minds, every teacher would also be earning that kind of money or more too). But a $20,000 increase for the same basic food? Good gig if you can get it, I guess.
Gee, is the food really THAT good?! Another question, since the school isn’t doing so well (didn’t make AYP), does the school chief (can’t capital that “i”–looks like lower case “l”) deserve HIS/HER salary?!
Best con ever!!!! You should see the junk served in charter schools. Why do parents put up with this???? All legalized thievery. Thank you legislators for protecting tax dollars!!!!! I’d like to by a chef in a charter. Where do I sign up? I know how to make cheese sandwiches and peanut butter and jelly with potato chips on the side.
DeeDee,
Sorry but you can’t just sign up for the $95,000 job, perhaps you missed it. The Chef at this Camden NJ Charter School is the boyfriend of the Charter operator. She can personally vouch for his skills in the kitchen; they live together!
AND, in NJ, our tough luv Gov. hasn’t said a word….
Among other things, Indy Star reports that
* NEA had to bail out the state union’s retirement association for about $50 million
* NEA has taken over the state association and is running it
* State Securities Commission is seeking damages of $24 million
The sad truth is that this obscene spending is trademark charter operating procedure.
An excellent post by Jersey Jazzman.

BTW–I also love Jazzman’s ribbon-cutting picture. Looks like the caption would be, “Dig in!” and they would each have $$$ signs above their heads!

Speaking of sad situations, any comments about the $24 million law suit in Indiana that has been filed against the state teachers union?
Here’s a March 27 article from the Indianapolis Star:
