Here is the full schedule and details for the organized protest against corporate education reform and high-stakes testing on April 4-7 in Washington, D.C.
I will speak on Thursday afternoon.
There is a stellar lineup of speakers and events.
Please come to Washington if you can.

Wow. I am in awe of the founders of the Opt Out Movement. Peggy Robertson and her friends have put together an amazing 4-day star-studded Occupy event!

For those of us not free to attend due to teaching or other reasons I hope you can film and share some of the speakers
. This is an important time to fight for education.

Will this be to opt-out of Common Core?

No, Heather, but it would be great if we could opt out of the Common Core and many other new ideas that have not been piloted, refined and developed scientifically.
This is a protest against the overwhelming amount of standardized ( supposedly) testing that so detrimntal to the educational process that children should be benefitting from in classrooms all over the country.
Instead of real teaching, hours and days are being devoted to pretesting, testing, post tesing and teaching children how to take the tests.
Parents can refuse to let their children take the tests. ( Opt-Out). Teachers in several places have refused to administer tests that they perceived to be a waste of time for their students.
We will be protesting the testing mandates of the No Child Left Behind and Race to the Top laws that should b e repealed.
“If we are to save, and transform, public education into spaces where ALL children have an opportunity to flourish, grow, question, challenge, think and be prepared as democratic citizens, we must begin with the fight to end the high stakes testing movement.”
