Monica Garcia is president of the Los Angeles school board and Superintendent John Deasy ‘s strong supporter in Los Angeles. She supports charter schools and evaluating teachers by test scores. Los Angeles has more charters than any other city in the nation. They have little supervision. They get public money to do as they please (in reformer-speak, that is called “innovation”).
Garcia’s friends do not want to take any chances.
Here are the latest campaign contribution reports. They do not include Mayor Bloomberg’s $1 million or Michelle Rhee’s $250,000 or other gifts from big-time corporate interests.

Sickening, isn’t it? But no matter what, this veteran teacher refuses to teach to a test. Sorry Monica, it doesn’t matter how much money you get, you will never force teachers to do what you want. Students are not widgets and I refuse to teach them like they are. Just spent 5 weeks on WW II and the issues surrounding the war which included a D-Day planning simulation and the Holocaust. . Oh well, I guess I didn’t get to the reunification of Italy. Trying to cover WW II in two weeks would have been absurd. So unless you plan to sit in our classrooms no amount of money will get you to control what we do.

Monica Garcia, the President of the Los Angeles Unified School Board, voted to hire John Deasy as Superintendent, even though there were questions about Deasy having a “fake” PhD. She should be voted out of office.

Don’t forget the series of billboards put up by Superintendent Deasy’s non-profit, LA Fund for Public Education. While the billboards were supposedly put up to show support for the arts, somehow, Monica Garcia’s picture was used in her district. What a great way to get her free publicity!!! Interestingly enough, those particular billboards were taken down, most likely because they were considered a campaign violation, and/or a conflict of interest for Deasy.

Just keep in mind that Romney had more money on his side then Obama did, yet Obama won, so it can be done. They just have to take a page out of Obama’s playbook.

Teaching to a test isn’t the real goal with reformers. It’s to create a hoop that few can jump through, then use it as an excuse to force schools to become charters and purge higher salaried career teachers.

Absolutely. WalMart-ization. Instead of building the field of dreams, plow down the cornfield for not producing the players.

Robert Skeels is the opponent who has the best chance of defeating Monica. We’ll be out precinct walking next Saturday (you can find out where by going to his website, http://www.robertdskeelsforschoolboard.org/). The election is on March 5.
Please don’t just talk. If you’re in Los Angeles, act.

Yes, Garcia has over $350,000 already in her treasure chest. Go look at who they are. You will be surprised how many people want to destroy “Real Public Education” through Monica Garcia and the phony PHD superintendent Deasy. Lie, cheat whatever it takes is their motto. The ends justifies the means and as long as I get what I want who cares about you. These are their mottos.

By the way for those of you that still believe in Obama and Duncan. They are the ones behind this stuff. Barack and Michelle made their money in Chicago privatizing. Both of them. Think about what is really going on.

Exactly right: Obama is a creature of Chicago real estate developers (with charter supporter and Commerce Secretary nominee Penny Pritzker prominent among them) and neoliberal foundations, and has been an impostor marketing himself as a progressive from day one.
Here’s a recent post from Alternet that describes some of his early betrayals: http://www.alternet.org/hard-times-usa/how-obama-and-valerie-jarrett-helped-launch-their...

I know. It’s demoralizing. So we’re given a choice between him and Romney…which really is no choice at all.

And that’s not including Bloomberg’s “contribution”…
He’s going to do more damage when he’s out of office than from within, where he at least had some rules to flaunt.
Mike thinks he knows best and will do whatever he can to further that cause.
If I had to choose one issue of prime importance in our country, it would be campaign finance reform. The system is beyond rigged from the top down. Creating a level playing field is the only way to effect change.
