EduShyster is worried that Democrats for Education Reform might lose a friend in the White House if Romney wins.
After all, they are Democrats, right?
But it turns out that Ann Romney has a passion for both horses and charter schools, so DFER and SFER and all the other little -FERs should be OK.
At the end of this item, EduShyster invites readers: After what education reformer should Ann Romney name her next horse?
I don’t think there is a prize attached to the winning entry, but since we don’t work for bonuses, give serious thought to nominating your favorite reformer.

Just change the D to R and you get RFER – just what I believe they’re smoking based on their beliefs and advocacy for students, children, and charter schools.

Romney winning the presidency will be a positive long-term development for K-12 education here in the USA.
We live in strange times.

I tend to agree, in the sense that a Romney presidency might jolt the democrats out of their neo liberal trance and back into behaving democratically.
However, I would be desperately afraid of the short term.

I’m as desperately afraid as anyone, but fighting a two-front war is impossible. As long as Obama is in office, the Democrats will be supporting the Republican agenda of privatization because the president’s calls for as much.
I predict that should Obama lose, all Democratic support for the current agenda reverses itself within 12 months.
Remember that schools are governed mostly at the local level…

This is one observation I noticed some time ago – the conflict that will occur when democrats witness DFER cuddling up to Romney. I would actually like to see what would happen? Would democrats get their heads screwed back on straight?

I shudder to think of what would happen with Romney as president, but I wonder that, too. Would a Romney victory give many a much-needed wake-up call?

and that is one heckuva question….

I think Ann Romney should name her horse “White Lies”. I’m from Louisiana and it seems appropriate in my opinion. He’s doing here what Romney would try to do nationwide–close down every public institution (or at least turn them into alternative schools for the poorest and most troubled students) and send as much public money intoo private reformers’ pockets as possible.

Why is there no mention of the stranglehold unions have on the FER effort. Unions are he iceberg to the titanic of public education.
