Parents in Oakland have had enough. They organized a protest march against the closing of five schools in minority neighborhoods, assisted by Occupy Oakland. Hundreds marched to express their reaction to the decimation of their children’s schools. Whose idea was this? The community has a voice and they are learning how to use it.
Hooray!
They have money, but we have numbers. We really need to exploit that.
ABSOLUTELY, Arthur! Since we’re all very capable of computing math (our teachers taught us how!!), common sense dictates that 99% is more than 1%. Therefore, we need to get going–all over the country. In many parts of the country, we need to take advantage of the warm weather NOW. NOW is the time to get out there. 5,000 red-shirted teachers in Chicago made such an impact. Protests helped to end the war in Vietnam. &, at that time, we didn’t have the internet–news travels so quickly this way, & the use of online petitions (e.g., the recent Change.org debacle, Molly Katchpole & B.o.A., etc.) has caused policy changes. Take a cue from Oakland &
Chicago–organize & be seen!
