Ken Previti explains Governor Rick Scott’s Dilemma: he wants to denounce Obama and disassociate from the Common Core, but he wants to keep everything about the Common Core because his mento Jeb Bush loves it.
So what does he do? He rebrands Common Core and calls it something else. But everything remains “aligned” with Common Core.
To avoid offending my sensibilities, Ken referred to “poo-poo” rather than use that familiar four-letter word, which is derived from Old English and Middle English.
Let’s be clear that Scott’s plan is the same GOP response being crafted in numerous other state. Placate the far right while keeping the Chamber of Commerce/Pearson/Gates/donors happy.
They need “standards” to do tests to get data to do their mischief.
In fact doing different tests for different states just brings in more money.
This is a well-orchestrated political response to give candidates cover and keep the plan intact.
But we’re onto them!
My district sent back a whole shipment (there are nearly 90 schools in my district) of math books because they say they’re “Common Core aligned” on the covers. The exact same books will come back without the label. Teachers have been instructed, if we are asked by parents if we teach the Common Core, to tell parents that we teach the “(name of district) standards, not the Common Core.” Amazingly, the district standards are exactly like the Common Core.
Threatened out West: so not just shameless hypocrites, not just shameless peddlers of hypocrisy, but shameless peddlers of hypocrisy that mandate that others engage in double-dealing and lies!
To riff off an old saying: “Supporting CCSS corrupts, and mandating CCSS corrupts absolutely!”
Wait for the day when those in charge say that they were the biggest victims because they were forced to do something they knew they shouldn’t do but, darn it!, the rest of y’all didn’t stop them from morally degrading themselves.
Thank you for your comments.

“Amazingly, the district standards are exactly like the Common Core.”
truly remarkable. I bet the probability of that happening is about the same as that the standards were created by monkeys randomly hitting keys.
Oh, wait….
Scatological Scott, where dogs run free to dumb the label.
Watch out where the huskies go and don’t you eat that . . .
“. . . rather than use that familiar four-letter word, which is derived from Old English and Middle English.”
You’re getting better every day, Diane!! (even if the knee isn’t at the moment-it will also get better!) Thanks for the reference.
This is still concerning in one respect because the Education Profiteer Movement was succeeding in part because they were, more or less, controlling the language of the debate with their Corporate Media partners willing to add some spin to help them. However, since support for Corporate Core has plummeted and has all but vanished, I suppose we could harken the (slightly-altered-for-this-blog) saying, “Well…..you can’t polish poo-poo.”
Like the snake that befriends and is invited into the camel’s tent only to bite the camel with the send off,”Remember, I’m still a snake,” this message can be applied to Rick Scott. Do not turn your back on him, and keep in mind, he speaks with a forked tongue.
There is a debate scheduled for September 9, at the Kaufman Center, 129 West 67th Street, New York. It is titled “Embrace The Common Core”. (Nothing like skewing the topic, eh?) Against are the wonderful Carol Burris, a hero of Diane’s blog and Rick Hess (go figure?). In favor are Mike Petrilli and Carmel Martin who is “Exec. VP, Center for American Progress and Fmr. Assistant Secretary of Education”.
You can find more information and tickets to attend at the website. It will also be live-streamed. There is a page to leave comments and to register your opinion. The nays have it currently, at 89% against.

Or as the evil-doer of NCLB would say… “The PooPoofication of American Ed-a-kashun. ‘Cuz we want our kids much more gooderer then they once before were like. “
So if Florida is a rebrand and Indiana is a rebrand why are people letting Pence get away with a Presidential run based on ending CCSS in IN? Shouldn’t In be in the same hot water as OK?
