Jeanne Kaplan served on the Denver school board for years and watched with a heavy heart as fake “reformers” took over Denver and Colorado. Now Colorado has the most punitive teacher evaluation law in the nation, thanks to Arne Duncan and Colorado’s State Senator Michael Johnston. When the NEA voted a resolution calling on Duncan to resign, the reporter didn’t speak to a teacher. No, the call went to Joe Williams of Democrats for Education Reform, the organization of hedge fund managers. When did DFER become the spokesman for Democrats or teachers or regular voters?

The media in much of Ohio is simply the propaganda arm of our Republican Regime. Reporting is one sided is very sloppy. The schools are scrutinized with assumptions of guilt while the governor, JobsOhio, and legislatures are shielded and coddled We have a few looking out for the public in Akron and Youngstown. But most are on the “teacher bad” bandwagon.

Makes me especially sad to hear that about Youngstown. My home town. Went all the way through public schools, graduating from Rayen in 1963. Both my parents were public school teachers at some point in Youngstown as well.

The Dayton Daily News has covered some corruption and they’ve been fair about pensions. Granted the greatest praise goes to the Beacon Journal.
The DDN is still rebuilding its reputation after its misguided (charitably) position on Senate Bill 5.
I contacted Cox Media, parent of DDN, and asked if the company belonged to ALEC. I received no answer.

Arne Duncan is the Emperors’ Darth Vader. We all know who the string of Emperors are: Reagan, Bill Clinton, G.W. Bush and Obama.

Had the reporter spoken to a teacher he would still be writing. Calling DFER was a lazy cop-out. Perhaps the reporter is a victim of NCLB? You know, no ability to think.

It ain’t St. George, MO as they voted to disband after multiple police problems.

You might as well ask why crooks like Michael Milken are allowed to be involved in public education at all. A teacher who is arrested for driving drunk can be fired, have sanctions on his or her license, and never work again. A full-blown criminal like Milken is allowed to influence the education of the future generation. Insane.

Thank you. I was thinking the same thing. Why does our society revere gamblers like we do. I don’t get it.
