Pete Hegseth, the Secretary of Defense, summoned hundreds of generals and admirals to an in-person meeting to lecture them. Hegseth spoke to them condescendingly to remind them that he is Secretary of War, not Secretary of Defense (which is not true because only Congress can rename a Department). He spoke about raising standards for height and weight and said he didn’t want “fat generals” in command (does that crack about weight apply to the Commander-in-Chief?). He wants regular tests of physical strength for all members of the service set to male standards and if women can’t meet them, tough.
Hegseth ignored the reality that wars today are not won by brute strength but by intelligence, wisdom, experience, and training. Warriors are flying incredibly complex airplanes that require technological skills and mental sharpness. Battles are fought by soldiers operating computers, shooting down drones and missiles, and guiding weapons with precision to their target. The hand-to-hand combat that Hegseth imagines is obsolete.
The generals and admirals must have been seething to be talked down to by Hegseth, whose highest rank in the Army National Guard was major.
He lavished praise on the Trump policy of banning diversity, inclusion, and equity, ignoring the fact that the military is a prime exemplar of the success of DEI. Just recently, he abolished a program that has recruited women into the military with great success for decades.
When he finished his speech, he waited for applause but the audience didn’t put their hands together.
Trump gave a frightening speech, saying that the greatest threat was “the enemy within.” Shades of Joe McCarthy! Trump, of course, never wore his nation’s uniform, nor have his sons. He managed to get five draft deferments based on a letter from a podiatrist who rented space in one of his father’s shopping malls. In other words, he is a draft dodger.
The military is supposed to protect our nation from hostile foreign enemies but Trump believes that the worst enemies today, the worst threats to the nation, are what he calls “radical left lunatics.” He told the military brass that America’s military should use its big cities as “training grounds” for the troops.
That sounds like martial law to me.
No other President has gone before the leaders of the military to ridicule his predecessor, to rail against his political foes, and to praise himself lavishly.
What’s frightening is that Trump seems eager to use the troops to put down domestic protests. If he can manufacture domestic violence, he has telegraphed that he will not hesitate to send in the military with orders to use “full force,” that is, to gun down civilians. Shoot to kill.
Many viewers must have thought of the brave farewell speech of General Mark Milley, who served as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in Trump’s first term. A week before he gave this speech, Trump said he should be put to death.
Milley said:
“We don’t take an oath to a king, or a queen, or to a tyrant or dictator, and we don’t take an oath to a wannabe dictator. We don’t take an oath to an individual. We take an oath to the Constitution, and we take an oath to the idea that is America, and we’re willing to die to protect it.”
“Every soldier, sailor, airman, Marine, guardian and Coast Guardsman, each of us commits our very life to protect and defend that document, regardless of personal price. And we are not easily intimidated.”
A warning to people in big cities. Protest peacefully. Wave signs. Sing songs. Chant. Don’t bring weapons to protests. Do not disrespect the troops. Do not provoke them into using their weapons.
Trump wants you to fight with the troops. Don’t take the bait. He wants you to throw rocks and draw fire from them. He wants a Reichstag fire to use as a pretext to suspend elections.
Don’t play into his small hands.

“Hegseth ignored the reality that wars today are not won by brute strength but by intelligence, wisdom, experience, and training.”
Today’s wars aren’t meant to be won (indeed, we haven’t won one since, what, Grenada?). They are meant to be profitable.

They love their “Great” descriptor of their version of America. Surly they love the power and conquest of WWII. The big spectacle D-Day movies! Parades! War Heroes! The guy kissing the girl in Times Square.
Real soldiers. Real heroes. Real Veterans deserving respect and honor.
So here stands a guy, former podcaster, who barely got his inexperienced-self nominated. And, the other who dodged the draft, mocked POWs, and slashes Veterans’ benefits and federal support systems.
They stood up in front of U.S. Military Generals career military men and women, leaders of troops in the heat of battle – many of whom are from families of military who fought in WWII – expecting to be lauded and applauded.
They had the audacity to lecture these bona fide military leaders to obey or get out. The audacity and flat out no-sense-of-reality in American cities that their next deployment would not be the middle east to ensure peace or to stand ready for attacks from enemies around the world – they told these general to be prepared to fight the war in…Oregon or Missouri. Deployed to attack Americans. Eisenhower is rolling over in his grave.
They have no clue what predecessors of these leaders fought for in WWII: Diversity & freedom in Europe. Inclusion of those who escaped the terror in Europe to come to America. The birth of the United Nations. The EQUITY of access, and opportunity to the G.I. Bill, federal housing for veterans, health care and jobs.

What continues to unsettle me is not only audacity of these two vandals, it is the fact that they are telling these generals they have to be loyal to them, not The Constitution as per the oath they took. They expect the generals to lead attacks on fellow Americans that this twisted administration considers to be “the enemy within.” It is all part of their political agenda in order to cling to power.

#WarriorPathos and #WarriorBathos from #SOWC and #TICOTUS 🤯
❝Bathos, (from Greek bathys, “deep”), unsuccessful, and therefore ludicrous, attempt to portray pathos in art, i.e., to evoke pity, sympathy, or sorrow. The term was first used in this sense by Alexander Pope in his treatise Peri Bathous; or, The Art of Sinking in Poetry (1728). Bathos may result from an inappropriately dignified treatment of the commonplace, the use of elevated language and imagery to describe trivial subject matter, or from such an exaggeration of pathos (emotion provoked by genuine suffering) as to become overly sentimental or ridiculous.
❝Even great poets occasionally lapse into bathos. William Wordsworth’s attempt to arouse pity for the old huntsman in “Simon Lee” is defeated by the following lines:

This confirmation comes as ICE troops storm a building in Chicago and Trump tells the general corp that our cities are going to “train” the troops. Does Trump now feel untouchable?

And not just some bldg.: a huge residential apt dwelling! The ABC report on this is terrifying. This has gone way beyond targeting Tren de Aragua members. An attack on peaceful civilians, who may or may not be living in the same complex with criminals targeted by ICE. Just as predicted, ICE is sweeping up innocent bystanders in the Trump admin’s pressure to deport x # of people/mo in its kamikaze attacks. Residents get handcuffed and detained, separated from their children, until released—because they may be neighbors of targeted terrorists—but mostly not! ICE ended up detaining only 37 people. This is scary and disgracefully undemocratic. Instilling terror & trauma into ordinary citizens. Those kids will remember this all their lives. WTF are we allowing to go on??

NO FAT PRESIDENTS!!!
While Trump was addressing the generals and admirals, Trump begged them to applaud him. But they sat stone-faced because here’s what they were thinking: “How did this fat, pathetic sad sack get to be our commander-in-chief?”

The generals and admirals know that Trump dodged the draft five times. They know he’s a phony.
They must have hated listened to his campaign drivel.
And even worse, to be lectured to by a man who was only a major! Telling them to violate their oath to serve the Constitution, not one party, not one fascistic President, not a FOX tv host and party boy.

This new physical fitness rule for senior officers was enacted to make it easier for Trump to justify firing those who won’t swear loyalty to him and repudiate their oath to the US Constitution.
In late September 2025, former President Donald Trump claimed that college football coaches are better leaders than current US generals and admirals, calling them “warrior-class” leaders. He made the comments during a phone interview with radio host Clay Travis, where he suggested that the military had become “soft.”
“Soft” is Trump’s word for “not blindly loyal to Trump like Hitler’s generals were”.
Trump’s popularity slips in latest Military Times poll — and more troops say they’ll vote for Biden | August 31, 2020 (before January 6, 2021)
The twice impeached president’s popularity among the troops was never higher than 46.1% and that was in 2016. The numbers kept dropping after that.
Any Trump loyalists MAGA football coaches who area appointed by Trump to replace senior generals and admirals, who continue to refuse to swear blind loyalty to Trump have a harsh reality to face if that happens.
That reality in the active-duty military is called fragging.
In the military context, fragging refers to the deliberate killing or attempted killing of a superior officer by their own subordinate soldiers, often using a fragmentation grenade, to appear as an accident or casualty of combat. The term originated during the Vietnam War, a period characterized by declining morale and cohesion, where fragging was used by disgruntled soldiers to remove incompetent or reckless leaders.

Simply disgusting. I wonder whom exactly Trump thinks he’s appealing to in such encounters with people who’ve actually risked their lives for our country, or are in training with the motivation to defend our country when under attack from foreign aggressors—or defending our NATO allies?
I’ll tell you a little secret, as one who in youth had a knee-jerk reaction against military leaders because of their implementation of the Viet Nam War. For some yrs now, I’ve been watching speeches by military leaders, as well as their responses in Congressional hearings. Every single time, I think to myself: these are the people who should be running our country. They are politically neutral; their only commitment is to the US Constitution.

The beginning of Trump’s speech:
”Thank you very much, Pete. Great job you’re doing too, fantastic job. I’ve never walked into a room so silent before. This is very… Don’t laugh, don’t laugh, you’re not allowed to do that. You know what? Just have a good time and if you want to applaud, you applaud and if you want to do anything you want, you can do anything you want. And if you don’t like what I’m saying, you can leave the room. Of course, there goes your rank, there goes your future…”
Again:
”Of course, there goes your rank, there goes your future…”
Funny little quip…right?
He began his speech with a threat to fire anybody who doesn’t obey him. And intimated that they should do it with enthusiasm.

We all know that most of those Generals in the audience must have either wanted to walk out or walk up onstage & grab Hegseth by the collar & throw him off of the stage. Of course they couldn’t do either, but I’d love to have seen close ups of how many bloody lips there were from biting down so hard while listening to both of those embarrassing, pathetic displays!
