We saw an off-Broadway show that we highly recommend. It’s a four-night only show. We saw the first. The others are May 19 and 25 at 7 pm. May 21 @2 pm.
“Margo & Juliette: A Dance on the Volcano in Weimar Berlin”
A two-woman cabaret of songs from the Weimar period. It’s risqué but no nudity.
It was wonderful!
The parallels to today are powerful, sometimes frightening.
It was akin to going to a cabaret during Weimar. Songs in English and in German. A simple production. Two beautiful singers and a piano.
In the end, very moving.
Only three more performances at the Triad Theatre on West 72 and Amsterdam in Manhattan.

No nudity? Forget it.

Turns out that two gorgeous women on stage can be very risqué while fully clothed

Apparently, I have been misled about Weimar art by watching the 1927 film Metropolis. This sounds exciting! I’m excited (in a good way, not suggestive at all).

Just kidding. I love this sort of thing. Sounds awesome, Diane!

Reminds me of the movie “Cabaret” with Liza Minnelli.

My niece was involved i that when she was a theater student. I went without knowing what it was about. I left very troubled.

There was a cabaret, and there was a master of ceremonies and there was a city called Berlin, in a country called Germany—and it was the end of the world . . . .

Imagine seeing a cabaret, supposedly in Weimar Berlin, in Germany, where two gorgeous women sing the songs that were sung a century ago, celebrating sexual freedom, weeping for the men maimed during the “Great War” and asking what was so great about it; mocking Hitler; protesting the ban on abortion (the Nazis wanted more babies); singing “The Lavender Song” (gay rights). A last burst of freedom, protest, insouciance, happening as it did before all of that was destroyed by evil.

Wow. This sounds just wonderful, Diane! So happy you got a chance to see it! This spirit in people doesn’t die. The fascists do what they can to kill it, and it springs up again!!!

As fascism looms again, right here. My Lord. We fought a war against this stuff in the middle of the last century. Do we have to do this all over again?
