Newly elected Governor Andy Beshear has invited teachers to lead his inaugural parade!
Governor-elect Beshear recognizes that angry teachers powered his upset election over the loser, Matt Bevin, who showered contempt on teachers. And paid for it.
A group of Kentucky teachers will serve as the grand marshals for the inauguration parade. It’s set for Dec. 10 in Frankfort.
“In my first inauguration announcement, I want to show my appreciation for our public educators, who work tirelessly, every day to improve the lives of our children and lift up our communities, and that is why I am naming them inauguration parade grand marshals,” Beshear said Wednesday.
The Kentucky Education Association’s president called the appointment an honor and tribute to educators.
“It signals Gov.-elect Beshear’s and Lt. Gov.-elect Coleman’s clear commitment to public education and a renewed respect for Kentucky’s educators, who faced withering attacks from the previous administration,” said KEA President Eddie Campbell.

That announcement will annoy the out-of-state billionaires (Charles Koch) who funded
Bevin and the Bluegrass Institute.

EXACTLY. May they become annoyed and stay annoyed as teachers across the nation push them away again and again.

How rare, a politician who respects teachers!!!
I never felt respected until I went to the International School of Kuala Lumpur and was given money for music needs in the budget, had small class sizes and went to workshops in other countries where we were treated to interesting speakers and had a sit down dinner with entertainment from locals in the host country.
In the beginning we had teacher improvement workshops in a casino resort that was located in the foothills surrounding KL. We’d be given a free lunch and could choose which speaker we wanted to hear. We were given money to travel and would call a local travel agent who would make our individual trip possible. It was GREAT…in the beginning.

On Thursday I had brunch with two retired public school teachers with whom I worked. On Friday, I had breakfast with a retired public school principal from another state who moved here. These women are really smart, kind, and funny. They know what’s going on throughout this country and aboard re: education. We keep each other informed.
Whenever I am WITH public school teachers, I am so grateful that I was able to work with such smart, kind, and courageous women. BTW, these women still work and contribute, too, even though they are retired. Amazing women. One even audits courses at CU-Boulder. These women are LEARNERS. We share BOOKS with one another … so are always reading several books at a time.
I love Public School Teachers, emphasis on the word, “PUBLIC.”
Go Kentucky teachers and Governor Beshear. You make a positive difference.
And … THANK YOU, Diane for this blog and all you do. I think you are remarkable.

A rare and generous statement.

Other politicians should take note of role teachers played in the election outcome.
But (with rate exceptions like Sanders and Warren) most are too beholden to the billionaires to do so.
To this day, Obama still does not understand that his attacks on teachers led to a crisis in the teaching profession. Of course, he does not care now and never cared because he blames teachers for the state of inner city schools.

And now Obama is setting up strawmen and lecturing progressives about what is possible.
“Even as we push the envelope and we are bold in our vision we also have to be rooted in reality. The average American doesn’t think we have to completely tear down the system and remake it.”
He had his turn and messed things up big time with regard to education and fell far short on the climate issue. Why doesn’t he shut up now and let someone else have their chance to actually make real, positive change ?

Oh, and he handed out trillion$ to the fraudulent Wall Street bankers who brought the world economy to the brink of collapse while giving the finger to main street.
Other than that, he was a great president.

Except, for the first two years , the GOP were actually not the majority in either the House or Senate. Obama and the Democrats had a majority of both houses of Congress for his first two years.
So try again, but with a better excuse this time.

It’s actually very funny indeed that Obama is lecturing about “reality” when he is the best example of someone who largely ignored reality (of inequality, criminal Wall Street banks, climate change) and made minor changes to put a bandaid on a body that is bleeding profusely from every major artery.

Is it not monstrous that when a governor asks educators to lead that it is considered NEWS?
