The National Park Service rejected a request for a permit for a “March for Our Lives” demonstration on the Mall in D.C., expected to attract 500,000 people, organized by the students leaders at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.
The March is planned to protest gun violence.
The NPS said the Mall was not available because it had been booked by a small “talent show.” The sponsors of the talent show were not identified. Could it be the NRA talent show? Twirling your AR 15 like a baton? Shooting at targets and trying to hit a bullseye? Balancing an AR 15 on your head while you juggle apples and plates? Crooning tunes about the gun you love?
“A planned rally against mass shootings can’t be held on the Mall later this month because it conflicts with what’s described in a National Park Service permit application as a “talent show.”
“A permit application filed last week by survivors of the Parkland, Fla., school massacre indicated the “March For Our Lives” rally will be on March 24, with up to 500,000 attendees expected. Mike Litterst, a spokesman for the Park Service, said organizers proposed holding the event on the Mall but were looking to move the rally to another location after the request conflicted with a film crew’s permit.
“Litterst said the film permit was “from a student group at a local educational institution,” but he wouldn’t name the institution because “applications from educational institutions are withheld from release for privacy reasons,” he wrote in an email….
”The “March For Our Lives” rally, funded in part by Oprah Winfrey and other celebrities, will include “student speakers, musical performers, guest speakers and video tributes,” according to the permit application, with 14 Jumbotrons, 2,000 chairs and 2,000 portable restrooms. The film crew’s plans for the Mall were more modest, listing equipment such as two tables, two bikes and jump ropes.”
Shooting at moving targets while riding a bicycle? What stunt can be performed with jump ropes and AR 15s?

The activities of any student group, which are funded by current or future candidates for (presidency) political office and who are in turn backed by corporate entities, need to be beware of its intention = thoroughly investigated. Back2basic

Are they denying a permit for Independence ave as well . Keep in mind the women’s march was denied a permit for the Mall . The speakers podium was on Independence ave and the march captured the Mall as well.

Same tactics is used by the Russian government when the opposition leaders try to organize their rally. One of the latter cases was the organizers of the rally moved it to a park and instead of calling it “rally” simply claimed that they were taking a stroll, which is not prohibited.

I know to whom it was addressed. To a reader who escaped Vietnam with the clothes on her back and suffered at the hands of the Ho Chi Minh thugs.
When I was in Vietnam recently, I was told by an official guide that Vietnam was a Communist society with (I quote) a “free-market capitalist economy.” I saw Mercedes, BMWs, even a Rolls-Royce dealer.

I imagine those 500,000 people showing up for the show and waiting politely to see the amazing talents (which would also be shown on the jumbo’s if the performers like the idea). Imagine the exposure! I could never ride bike and jump rope at the same time. Or jump rope and ride bike for that matter, so it’s gotta be worth it.

Source: NPR. It was reported that permits are issued on a first come, first served basis, and that the “Talent Show” group simply filed their request first. The Nat’l Pk Service found another place for the march to take place. I have no info on the actual identity of the talent show group that got there first or if a merger or accommodation is being discussed. Lets show some restraint here till all the facts are in.

I think some of the National Book Festivals that Laura Bush and Michele Obama hosted were held there before they moved it to the National Mall.

No doubt, exposing the corruption, has it’s place, but the “listen up”
DJT, Repubs, NRA, Betsy, Gates, Kochs…,seems to fall on deaf ears.
I can find no evidence (have you?) that indicates the genesis of the
malefactor is a “lesson” gone wrong, and the “proper” lesson,
(listen up), provides a resolution.
One could talk at money ’till they’re blue in the face. The “led” could
define the so called “leaders” as unfit, unqualified, fiscal duds,
short-sighted, on and on. One could wish, that a place in their hearts
would make us feel more real.
The “song” remains the same, as does the flow of money,
from our hands to theirs.

If one penny of U.S. tax dollars fund the “institution” wouldn’t it be subject to sunshine laws? How can the identify of a permit be protected?
Post article says “often” the two groups will be put in contact with each other. Did that occur?
Hmm -possible GOP PAC has booked the mall every day to block events they want to silence?

The “privacy” claim just doesn’t cut it, nor does the dedication of the whole mall to what appears to be a very small production. I hope there is some first class investigation of this issue.
