The more interesting part is the broadcaster where it originated. In the “Old Days” they were an off-shoot of the same religious group Ms. Devos is associated with
“I wonder if they will accept refugees from the USA.”
Of course, they do. It’s a gigantic country, full of tall men and women talking perfectly good English and some Dutch as they offer free weed for everybody who is bicycling their way. Just don’t smoke it on the streets, unless you are in a coffee shop or walk in the red light district where it’s, in fact, mandatory.
Hate to rain on your weed, but it’s only for card carrying citizens now. Too many Americans came over (and Belgians, French, Germans, Swiss etc) to keep going with that.
But, on the other hand, we have about 200 kinds of beer to share…
A good friend showed me this hilarious video just a few hours ago. It made me realize that while we—the MAJORITY of citizens in the United States—voted for Trump’s opponent and are disgusted that this person is allowed to occupy the White House, 94% of humanity is viewing him from outside our borders and they’re, if anything, more apprehensive, more incredulous and even MORE disgusted than we are. And, unlike us, their fate is in the hands of other people, i.e., we, the American Majority, who MUST resist Trump 24/7 on every single issue, with full passion, vigor and intensity.
All that being said…this WAS a truly funny and very smart video.
“the MAJORITY of citizens in the United States—voted for Trump’s opponent”
Is that an alt-fact or an alternative-fact?
NO! The majority of citizens did not vote for Trump’s opponent.
Clinton received a little over 26% of the electorate/eligible voting population.
Clinton received 48% of the votes of the ELECTORATE. The other candidates received the rest. Yes, Clinton’s electorate total surpassed Trumps by about 3 million, but that is not how elections are decided in this country, so we have THEDonald now.
What I was correcting in my response was the falsehood, alt-truth, alternative truth that “the MAJORITY of American citizens voted for Clinton”. That is as false a statement as is 1+1=8.
Hillary got 2.9 million votes more than Trump. This is driving him mad. He insists it can’t be true. Three-five million illegals voted. He said, They ALL voted for Hillary. Not one of them voted for me. How does he know this? If the Dems were so clever at vote-rigging, why did Trump win? If the election was riddled with fraud, let’s have a do-over.
Again, my desire is to see those of us on this side of the public education debates adhere to, subscribe to, put into action a fidelity to truth attitude in our arguments and quest against those who choose to use falsehoods, errors, lies and prevarications to their own personal (and social) interests.
To not correct falsehood and error in statements of support for the public education side is to succumb to the speciousness of those seeking to destroy public education. To not correct those errors would be a fatal flaw to “our side” and doom our efforts from shooting ourselves (rhetorically speaking).
And if that includes admitting that yes, there are serious flaws (based on FACTS) in education (none of them new) that need to be understood and dealt with, so be it.
Walls can be built by a constand denial – but FACTS show that we need solutions…
I was wrong Duane, Donald’s free media over the course of the primary and general approached $3 billion. Strange that you don’t remember since it all pretty much happened in the last year. Don’t have the time to find all the info for you.
Very Dutch. This is all part of Rudy’s insidious plotz to send us into the Nether regions and Hollandaise us until we beg for mercy. Just kidding. Loved the video, the humor and I really love the Dutch language. It sounds like someone on the verge of vomiting but catches himself with each utterance. I joke again. Great people and did I mention they have universal health care.
If you were covered in my Hollandaise sauce (which is the best in the world according to my daughter, even better than my professional chef son’s) you would be in ultimate ecstasy.
Off topic: I’d love for Diane to start a thread focusing on how our schools might have done more to prevent the rise of a Trump. It seems imperative to me that we teachers collectively grapple with this question now. I don’t know of a better forum than this (sadly I don’t know of a forum in my union for these kinds of discussions). My personal hunch is that we should have made study of authoritarian regimes de rigeur for all students. We should have taught enough psychology to all students so that they could recognize narcissistic and other personality disorders. We should have made it a priority for students to acquire a love of democracy (tall order that requires a lot of thinking). Some will say we’re already doing some of this, but are we doing it well? Are we doing it with focus and seriousness? Are we doing it enough? It seems to me we’ve taken the eye off the ball and are focusing on building mental muscles rather than teaching these particular concepts in a robust way. It seems our schools are rather “neoliberal” –laissez-faire –in the way they treat teaching content like this–if it happens it happens, if it doesn’t it doesn’t. The key thing in these days of Common Core and NGSS is for skills to get exercised.
Just home from work… Long day…challenging day…problem solving day…successful day… Just looked at the top few posts…
This blog seems in great spirits today. I needed that. Thanks!
Off to bed.
Saw it…loved it…
Humor is a way to cope, but HE IS MENTALLY ILL, and must be replaced, as he is UNFIT for the job, and we did not elect Jared Kushner or Bannon and the Koch Borthers who are running our country right now, undoing everything that we the people achieved, and doing nothing that we need.

Thanks to the Netherlands for this spot on, clever satire. I wonder if they will accept refugees from the USA. The Netherlands also started an international abortion fund in response to Trump’s recent executive order. http://www.cnn.com/2017/01/25/politics/netherlands-trump-global-gag-rule/

So, this is also a reason then to stop the discussion as to the a possible Russian rigging of votes, right?

Rudy,
The Russians hacked into the files of DNC and Podesta and shared them with Assange. Nothing more to discuss.

But, remember, Donald got more than $1 billion in free media because the “news” was addicted to him like meth. Neither turns out well.

Donald got geometrically more free media in the primary: https://www.nytimes.com/2016/03/16/upshot/measuring-donald-trumps-mammoth-advantage-in-free-media.html, http://money.cnn.com/2015/12/06/media/donald-trump-nightly-news-coverage/, https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/monkey-cage/wp/2015/07/20/why-is-trump-surging-blame-the-media/?utm_term=.4c6b165b2e02
Even his paid media got exponential coverage through “news” reports: http://www.businessinsider.com/news-play-trumps-ad-60-times-in-one-day-2016-1
By giving him so much free time, the media ignored context, much of which was discussed on this blog: https://www.nytimes.com/2016/08/29/opinion/why-did-we-stop-teaching-political-history.html

I didn’t dispute that he got “free” media coverage. My question is how much “free” media coverage that Clinton got.
For to not include that figure when discussing THEDonald’s then one is playing games with numbers and I generally dismiss those games.
