Peter Greene writes about the debut of the Indiana faction of “Moms for Liberty,” which issued a statement quoting Adolph Hitler: “He alone who OWNS the youth, GAINS the future”
Over the next 24 hours, they kept rephrasing their statement over and over, to make clear that they weren’t actually endorsing Hitler or taking inspiration from his quote. After a few contortions, they sort of clarified what they meant, I think. Your local public school is controlled by the government, so your local public school is a manifestation of Nazism.
This would be funny if it weren’t so stupid.
Ninety percent of Americans went to public schools. Are we assume then that ninety percent of Americans are fascists? Are all of us public school graduates controlled by the evil U.S. government? By Biden? Trump? Obama? Bush 1 or 2? Clinton? Reagan?
Did we get controlled when we were in school or later? For me, that means my mind went into control-mode during the era of Truman and Eisenhower. Which one am I controlled by? Or is it both?
It’s especially ironic for Moms4L to accuse anyone of “mind control” since it is they who are enthusiastically censoring what teachers may teach and banning books. If anyone is promoting mind control, it’s Moms for Liberty! It’s they who have adopted the tactics of the Storm Troopers.
A note to Moms for Liberty:
The goal of public schools is to teach children to think for themselves. The goal of religious schools is indoctrination.

Most of the MFL members are probably so ignorant of history, the implication of the quotation is lost on them. They are also likely filling their minds with a lot of right wing extremist garbage that present Hitler as a “brilliant strong leader.” These fools are showing the world what manipulated idiots they are. Sad!

The Moms for Bigotry have always shown us who they are. Believe them. This was no mistake. They sent a message to their people and think a soft backpedal will exonerate them with the center.

They didn’t align themselves with Hitler. They were trying clumsily to make the point that the woke left in schools is like Hitlert.

Unbelievable. If you need to cite Hitler to denigrate something you can’t define yourself, you are as irredeemable as your apologists.

Nahh, ’cause facism is a system

nationalism, militarism,

Just because public school is

Nope, we were thinking
for ourselves. We wanted

NoBrick That’s the thing about human beings . . . we can constantly and reflectively understand this: that constant and reflective thought stands on an openness of mind and on critical thought with others that culminates in like planning and action; and not on an ideology that supports questions of everything except that ideology itself, its purveyors (fascists), or what might threaten its and their continuance. Republican Moms for Liberty should be MOMs for FASCISM.
These alleged mothers are following in Hitler’s footsteps.
They are accusing our democracy’s more than three million public school teachers spread across 50 states,
[Discover the political leaning of our countries teachers — 5% are very liberal; 4% are very conservative: https://www.edweek.org/leadership/survey-educators-political-leanings-who-they-voted-for-where-they-stand-on-key-issues/2017/12 ],
teachers working in more than 10,000 public school districts spread across the United States,
each state with its own public education system mostly funded by local state taxes/revenues,
each district with democratically elected, local school boards …
These fascist loving alleged moms that lie when they say they are Moms for Liberty, claim those teachers are programing our children to grow up and become fascists.
Who are the real fascists that want to take away our teachers freedom to teach while censoring books so all parents can’t decide what their children can read?

A few facts to show how insane and dangerous the fascist loving MOMS for LIBERTY are:
“All together, there are 4,007,908 teachers in the United States. This includes all K-12 public and private schools, plus adult education and career/technical schools. Teachers account for about 2.5% of the working population.”
“Forty one percent of respondents [public school teachers] described themselves as Democrats while another 30 percent said they were independents. Just 27 percent were Republicans.”
Only 5% are very liberal and 4% very conservative.

The federal government also does not provide the giant’s share of funding for the nation’s public schools. The states do that. Less than 10% of funding for our public schools comes from the federal government.
“Public K-12 expenditures total $666.9 billion. Expenditures are equivalent to 3.41% of taxpayer income. K-12 schools nationwide receive $60.34 billion total or $1,193 per pupil from the federal government. States contribute a total of $357.0 billion to K-12 public education or $7,058 per student.”

We all need to educate these morons about how this great country of ours was created, then built, with the promise of PUBLIC (government) SCHOOLS, where every citizen could get a free education and an equal opportunity to better themselves and thus, be able to achieve the “American Dream”. These idiots are just tools of the Oligarchs who want to separate schools into the “haves & have nots” and return to the two-tiered system of the pre-Revolutionary monarchies.

If Moms4L thinks negatively about the schools that educated 90%, it must have a very low opinion of the USA.

So then, why aren’t all Democratic public officials, Randi W, Miguel Cardona, Pres. Biden, et. al., shouting from the rooftops every chance they get, whether in Congress, in their speeches, in interviews, etc., about the greatness of our country having been formed by the great public education system?!?!

If they listened to me, they would shout from the rooftops that free public education made us a great nation. Anyone is free to choose a private or religious school but the taxpayers should not fund private choices.

I recently came across DeWitt Clinton High School in the Bronx. One of the people I’m writing about graduated from there in the late 40s. It’s absolutely fascinating to see the variety of people who came through there. Since the first graduating class that had girls was in 1978, I’m assuming they began in 1974. The point you make is correct. The best public schools in the U.S. are some of the best in the world. As DeWitt Clinton High School confirmed to me once again.

These are some of the new Indiana laws that will take effect on Saturday. [Indiana is run by the GOP and they have NO respect for public schools or teachers.] Gary is a poverty area and they cannot vote for their school board members. 87% of Hoosier children attend public schools and they are continuously underfunded.
Book bans — Every public school board and charter school governing body is required to establish a procedure for the parent of any student, or any person residing in the school district, to request the removal of library materials deemed “obscene” or “harmful to minors.” School districts must also post a list of the complete holdings of its school libraries on each school’s website and provide a printed copy of the library catalogue to any individual upon request. (HEA 1447)
Charter schools — The proceeds of each new voter-approved school funding referendum in Lake County must be shared with local charter schools in proportion to the number of children living in the school district who attend charter schools. Beginning July 1, 2024, all incremental property tax revenue growth at Lake County school districts must be shared on a proportional basis with local charter schools. (SEA 391, HEA 1001)
Gary schools — A five-member, appointed school board is reestablished for the Gary Community School Corp. to eventually replace the Indiana Distressed Unit Appeals Board as the governing body for the formerly cash-strapped school district. Gary’s mayor and the Gary Common Council appoint one member each, and the three others are chosen by the Indiana secretary of education, including at least one Gary resident, one resident of Gary or Lake County, and a final member from anywhere. (SEA 327)
