Andrew Brenner is chairman of the House Education Committee in the Ohio Legislature. He hates public schools. He once referred to them as an example of “socialism.” He loves charter schools. Free enterprise! He was ECOT’s champion, the online charter that fraudulently inflated its enrollment and owes many millions to the state.
Brenner is now running for State Senate in District 19 in Delaware County. Take note if you are a parent or teacher.
The failed ECOT loved Brenner. It gave him lots of campaign $$$$.
Denis Smith details the love affair between Brenner and ECOT here.

Thank you for keeping the heat on Ohio’s ECOT ripoff. The profit seekers are scaling up on the assumption that brick and mortar schools can be made relics, and the abandonment credited people in power who are insufficiently innovative.

Brenner is truly the worst of the worst. Interestingly, based on a number of searches I did (someone please correct me if I am wrong), there is not a single charter school in Delaware County. The community Powell has the least poverty of any city in Ohio. So another case of “what is good for thee, is not for me.” I’m betting the only ones who know about Brenner’s horrible record on education (and virtually every other issue) are those who are not his present or potential constituents.

This is correct.
It’s not just that. The biggest public school detractors in the state legislature don’t speak that way in their districts. They show up in our schools during campaign season for photo ops and vow their eternal love!
Then they go back to Columbus and work as hard as they can to eradicate them.
It’s appalling. It’s like night and day. You would not know these people opposed public schools if all you heard where their LOCAL campaigns.
I wish they’d stay out of public schools. They add no value and they’re just using our kids as props.

Big Money spends much on sending out glossy photograph flyers across a city so that Reformers/Reformer Candidates can be shown caring “deeply” about inner-city children; this tactic works well.

When Brenner comes around looking for votes someone should ask him to list what he has done to improve any public school in the state.
One school. One program. One positive contribution to one actual, existing public school in this state. We’ve all heard his opinions on how horrible “government schools” are- turn that around and ask him what he brings to the table for public school families.
Nothing. He adds no value. We would be better off with a competent bookkeeper distributing the state share of funding to our schools. Then we could skip the ideological lectures.
