Trump is something new in our politics. He is making money by renting space to Republican events at his properties.
Other presidents separated from their holdings and business interests. Not this one. Every time there is an event at his hotel near the White House, he makes money.
I wonder if he is charging the federal government for the rooms he occupies at his various weekend lodgings.

Diane,
Stick to Education matters, and leave politics and business to politicians and business people.
P.S. Your approach to Education matters has taken a turn for the worse, too. Shame, because you once had such good advice to offer.

Trump can well afford to pay for his own protection. He needs to learn that some budgets don’t get refilled when the money runs out — typical of those who have so much more than they need. He didn’t divest from his interests and so he can use the money he’s charging the republican groups to use his facilities to pay for his protection. He can also use all the money he’s getting from all his businesses that the family is still operating.

It matters that Trump is profiting from political and government payouts due to his role as POTUS, and that is occurring while he is diverting tax payer money to private and religious schools, at the expense of public education.
The fact that the Secret Service paid $130,000 per month for rental space in Trump Tower to protect the president and his family, and then the Trump Organization asked them to leave over a lease dispute, related in part to the rental fee, is truly disgusting. Secret Service funds will be depleted by next month due to all the money already paid for protecting Trump and his family, including his frequent weekend excursions out of DC for R&R.
The presidency should not be a cash cow for anyone, let alone this conman, especially while the education for 90% of America’s children who attend public school suffers from inadequate funding!

I am amazed at her intelligence, endurance and determination to put out the truth of what is happening in education and to discuss the disastrous ramifications of having someone as ignorant as Trump in the WH.

it is an educational matter. This is how a former school superintendent in MA siphoned off public taxpayer dollars into his own family’s accounts and his two houses and his wife and girlfriend etc. The problem was we never expected a “professional” to do this…. ministers and teachers don’t act this way. Well he did… and he started out by buying buildings and then “renting” back the buildings to the local school classrooms; and he took over the state computer system in education and started selling and marketing from that “Space” AS well as his buildings he was buying. Then we saw the same thing in charter schools and taking over spaces/buildings etc. It is the same thing that is happening in education today and we are not protected or isolated from it. You are to be shamed; like those who proclaim to have greater knowledge who tell teachers they must be “neutral” and not take a political stance on any of the issues like BUDGETS; and how priorities are set for the state and local budgets.

A question, Who pays for Trump’s transportation to his “rallies?” Does he travel on the tax payer’s dime or does the group sponsoring the rally pay? If the tax payers are paying, I want a refund. Terry

The taxpayers pay the bill for everything Trump does. His rallies, his travels. The Secret Service paid rent to Trump for space in Trump Tower.

When Republicans hold events at the Trump hotel in DC that is a few blocks from the White House, they pay Trump. When foreign dignitaries come to D.C., they stay at the Trump hotel and pay Trump.

I’m not try to find any “excuse” for the White House resident, but I’m wonder whether Cheney and his connection with Halliburton set some weaker precedent. I could be remembering incorrectly, but didn’t Cheney benefit after his term due to Halliburton profits on the Iraq war?

As far as I know Cheney had divested from Halliburton while in office. Not that he didn’t necessarily benefit in many ways from the wars he so heavily pushed.

It is the rule that elected officials divest themselves of any assets that might be a conflict of interest.
The rule does not exist for Trump and DeVos. She is still invested–and adding more–to Neurocore, the quack company that claims it can cure autism if you pay $2,000.

How do you propose discussing education without discussing politics. Anyone who pretends you can, knows nothing about education or politics . You may be able to discus some minor methodology of teaching . But you are never ever going to be able to discuss education or any segment of the economy from healthcare, labor ,to education ……. without discussing
” Politics;Who Decides ,Who Gets What ,When and How.”
But Diane
We have to lay off our fearless leader. He has to rest up to execute his secret plan. He is going to go to India soon, for an Elephant ride .Leading nuclear armed Indian Hindu troops through nuclear armed Muslim Pakistani territory.
Lead them to do battle against the Muslim Taliban in Afghanistan. Anybody bold enough to propose that as a serious policy . Is bold enough to look at the Sun with his naked eyes and just as stupid . Anybody still supporting him is a ——- ——- .

Probably nothing happened from the first glance up. We make incidental contact with the full sun all the time and the damage is cumulative. The prolonged squint, one can only hope it prevents him from reading the nuclear codes. The real danger from an eclipse is the partially blocked sun allows you to view the sun far longer than you normally could. Think of the example he just set for children who will be invincible teens in 2024 . Donald jr is probably making investments in Vision centers .

If Donald Trump is charging taxpayers fees for the golf carts used by Secret Service to secure his safety on his golf courses, it’s likely he’s also charging for sll the rooms, meals, etc used by Secret Service, White House Staff, and his family. Every trip to a Trump property is a money-making opportunity. If he wants to cut government spending, he could start by staying at the White House on weekends or at Camp David.
