The PARCC assessment group includes all or almost every member of Jeb Bush’s Chiefs for Change.
What is strange is to see the commissioners of Massachusetts and New York aligned with the state commissioners of the states most closely aligned with the ALEC agenda of high-stakes testing and privatization.
Well, after Newark, Chicago, and DC got mayor control, we shouldn’t be surprised to see another Democrat reach for the public till.
In The Washington Post, we read of the county executive of Prince George’s County, MD, wanting to take control on the school, just two years after saying he didn’t want to do that.

It’s not strange at all, it’s symptomatic and concerning.
How does SBAC compare?
This is remarkable.King keeps saying that he does not know ifNY will participate in PARCC. It looks as if the decision has been made
Agreed. This is remarkable. But I think King is only saying he’s unsure about PARCC because Meryl Tisch herself is not committed to PARCC–or at least it looks that way from her comments at the Manhattan Institue. Could the real reason be that they really want to go with the testing dynasty of their friends Joel Klein and Rupert Murdoch and SBAC instead?
ALEC influence in New York state makes perfect sense. We could be the next Tennessee.
It’s just about money and power. long- standing theories and excellent pedagogy are ignored.
Cui bono?
Nashville students in 3-8 will take the PARCC test this year,10 hours of fun. Don’t fret, 1st and 2nd get to take the SAT-10, it’ll be used to determine 1st & 2nd grade teachers value-added.

Cuomo plans to run for Prez in 16, so he needs Wall St. money behind him, which means educ policy is being written by billionaire financiers for both parties.
Be sure to check into ALEC’s webgsite and the resources it has there — including the “model” legislation they propose:
For example, here’s the start of the state plans to defund ESEA Title I, and move money to charter schools and vouchers: http://www.alec.org/model-legislation/resolution-on-title-1-of-the-elementary-and-secondary-education-act/
