Trump spoke tonight at an event in Washington, DC, focused on combatting anti-Semitism. According to The New York Times, Trump complained that he was getting only 40 percent of the Jewish vote. He warned that there would be terrible consequences if he lost, and “the Jewish people would have a lot to do with a loss if I’m at 40 percent.” What would happen? He said, “I believe that Israel will be wiped off the face of the Earth if I don’t win.”

Blaming “the Jews,” a small minority of Americans (about 2.5% of the population), for his possible loss, is a strange way to combat anti-Semitism. It sounds like a threat. We know what MAGA bullies do to people Trump threatens.

Here is a transcript of Trump’s remarks:

A poll just came out. I’m at 40 percent [of Jewish voters]. You can’t let this happen. 40 percent is not acceptable, because we have an election to win. If I don’t win this election – and I’ve been very good. You know, they say Trump’s been right about everything. I’ve been right about a lot of things. In my opinion, the Jewish people would have a lot to do with a loss if I’m at 40 percent. I believe that Israel will be wiped off the face of the Earth if I don’t win. And that’s a big statement. That’s a horrible statement to make. And it’s just the way I feel.
