I have never been on the Danube before. We are on a river cruise that goes very slowly to interesting places in Austria and Germany. The photo here is Durnstein, a beautiful Austrian village. Here’s news: the Danube is not blue. It’s green. We expected cool weather but it has been 75-80 degrees every day (so far). Because of prolonged drought, our cruise will not make it to Nuremberg because the water levels are low. Today we went to Salzburg, which is a beautiful town with immaculate streets, beautiful churches, and lots of attention to native son Mozart.

Awesome!

Enjoy! The Hapsburgs made their power in part because of the salt mines there.
I have always wanted to go down the Danube

This is a beautiful part of the world. I’ll note that your picture shows not only part of the village of Durnstein, but also (on the hill in the background) part of the ruins of Durnstein Castle. It is famous for, among other things, being the place where Richard the Lionhearted was imprisoned on his way home from the Third Crusade.

Have a lovely time. And when you get to Nuremberg, do NOT miss the Documentation Center (Dokumentationszentrum ). Despite the anodyne name, it is the best presentation, museum style, of the rise and fall of the Nazis. An incredibly moving (and awful) experience.
