Th White House held a routine ceremony to honor the nation’s Teacher of the Year. But what was not routine was that the press was not allowed to hear her acceptance speech or record it.
Mandy Manning terrified Trump because she teaches the kids he wants to exclude or deport. She spoke for them. He did not want her—or her students to be heard. She came to speak on their behalf.
Manning, from Spokane, was interviewed by “Democracy Now.”

““I am honored and humbled to be the vehicle through which my students may tell their stories,” Manning said in the historic East Room, as billionaire Education Secretary Betsy DeVos and Labor Secretary Alex Acosta looked on. “I am here for David, a future IT specialist who hopes to one day be able to attend university. I am here for Tamara, who is currently studying pre-med at Eastern Washington University. I am here for Safa and Tara, both future elementary school teachers. I am here for Solomon and Gafishi, who believe that the United States is the place where they have found the center of their lives, where they can have dreams and hopes to be someone.”
“These are the words that the White House didn’t want broadcast. We don’t know why the press wasn’t allowed to be in the room. Perhaps they didn’t want reporters to see the six buttons Mandy Manning was prominently wearing on her dress. Her buttons included artwork from the 2017 Women’s March, a rainbow flag and the slogan “Trans Equality Now!” One displayed the quote “Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.’”

Love love love this woman. She rocks.

Thanks for echoing my sentiments. And thanks for Democracy Now and this blog for some truth telling that the Trumpsters cannot abide.

YES! It is not only Dumpsterfire but his cabinet and advisors as well. DeVos must have been ready to crawl out of her skin and will likely consider changing how/why the teacher of the year is selected, or just closing down the idea itself.

What else would we expect from the bloated, diseased ego of a pathological liar but censorship? The First Amendment was Dumpsterfires very first victim.

Trump is obsessed with the idea that he must have control of the “fake news” he wants the public to be exposed to.

dishonorable almost vile. Mr. Trump’s lack of manners is one of the reasons, even if he is a crafty wheeler-dealer, I do not love him.

He is rude and vulgar. The children should not hear him. He sets a very bad example.

I want to add to your “he (Trump) is a crafty wheeler-dealer,”
Trump is a crooked, fraudulent, serial lying, outrageous (not crafty) wheeler-dealer that has cheated thousands of people out of the money he agreed to pay them. He also went through more than $800 billion in government corporate welfare money to fund his always crumbling family business empire.
How much was lost to banks and investors when one or more of Trump’s companies filed bankruptcy?

It pleases me to see the National Teacher of the Year – the top representative culled from all our local school districts – juxtaposed against our phony ‘President’, whose core backers are a mere 30% of the populace – who lost the popular vote by 2.8million – whose response is to muzzle her acceptance speech.
You go, girl!

It’s an embarrassment to be one of Trump’s ‘campaign stops’. He needs boosts to his flattened ego and to relieve the pressure from Mueller and Stormy Daniels. Notice the swipes at Sleepin’ Senator Joe Donnelly. And then there is Pence who might have lost his re-election as governor telling us that Trump has made a difference in Indiana. There may be some jobs but they don’t pay decent salaries. Carrier got a $7 million tax break to save around 300-400 jobs since some went to Mexico and some are now being done by robots. Tax breaks for the wealthy and making premiums higher for ACA are his great accomplishments. GRRRRR! He still can’t get over Hillary and has crowds yell, “Lock her up.”

[NWI Times] President Trump, Vice President Pence host supporters, rally together in Elkhart
EKLHART — A sea of red, white and blue populated North Gym on Thursday as President Donald Trump and excited Hoosiers rallied together for another one of his ‘Make America Great Again’ rallies.
Participants donned apparel with American flags, threw up signs with messages such as ‘Drain the Swamp’ and ‘Keep America Great’ and came together with chants of ‘U-S-A,’ ‘Lock Her Up’ and ‘Build That Wall.’ Two large blue signs hung near both sides of the stage with the message ‘Promises Kept.’
The event functioned as a campaign rally for Trump’s goal of reelection in 2020, a moment to gather support heading into this year’s midterm elections and a chance to share his thoughts on political goals and achievements for his administration.
Vice President Mike Pence, former Indiana governor and a Columbus native, also made an appearance. He complimented recent successes touted by the Trump administration, such as progress with North Korea and receiving three prisoners back from that country early Thursday morning, tax cuts and taking a strong stance in support of the Second Amendment…
“My fellow Hoosiers, I say with absolute confidence, jobs are coming up, confidence is back, and under President Donald Trump America is back,” Pence said. “President Trump’s leadership has been making a difference in Indiana and across the country every day…
The Republican tax plan, which finally passed the U.S. Senate 51-48 in December, was hailed as an initial legislative victory for the GOP and Trump’s administration.
“We cut taxes for families, job creators, businesses large and small,” Pence said…
The most swipes were directed toward Sen. Joe Donnelly, D-Ind., who is set to faceoff with former state rep. Mike Braun in November.
“We need people in Washington who share our values,” Trump said. “Democrats, like sleepin’ Joe, say one thing when they’re in Elkhart. Then they go to Washington and vote for the radical liberal agenda.”..
