Let’s say for the moment that you are the President. Let’s say you are addressing the national convention of the Boy Scouts.
What would you say to them? I would talk about the value of their organization in teaching character: integrity, hard work, kindness, and other virtues. I would talk about Boy Scouts who grew up to make great contributions to our society.
With Trump, it is always about Trump. Trump family values. Me first.

He bashed Obama for never attending a Jamboree, when that was because of Boy Scouts anti-gay policies. Leave it to Drumpf to turn a Boy Scout Jamboree into something akin to a Nazi youth rally. And how about Secretary of HHS, Dr. Tom Price, that devout Christian, laughing like the useful idiot he is, along with the President. And meanwhile our supposedly responsible civic leaders, both Republican and Democrat, remain largely silent. Sad.

These Scouts are representative of the whole country—not the insulated beltway. The President thought enough of these boys to accept their invitation. It was a thrill to them to even see the president and it was motivational. The kids loved him! Don’t start with the Nazi garbage and the gay issue—that is not what it is all about. The boys are not interested in that. It is love of country, respect, service, doing what you love and striving to reach a goal that inspires these kids. My son was there in the late 90s and an experience he would never trade. Don’t sully a moment because you don’t like the man.

You got to get the other senators to vote for it. It’s time. After seven years of saying repeal and replace Obamacare, we have a chance to now do it. They better do it.”
What the hell does that have to do with boy scouts? And that’s just one of the stupid non sequiturs that he made at the gathering.

Those of us who are criticizing our Dear Leader for his behavior in front of the Boy Scouts are not “sully[ing] the moment” because we “don’t like the man.” Our Dear Leader did that completely on his own. And to call him a “man” is really stretching it.
This was another example of our Dear Leader striving to create an American policy of Gleichschaltung…just like Hitler did with the German Boy Scouts.
My youngest son just earned the rank of Tenderfoot. He figured out that what our Dear Leader did was wrong completely on his own.

I have to disagree. The guy sullies himself and the scouts by his raunchy and self-centered language–the exact opposite of the updated Boy Scout ethic
The President of the United States is absolutely promoting the “boys will be boys” code as if that is a badge of honor for the Boy Scouts, the youngest of these 13. The moment should be regarded as anything but inspiring and unworthy of praise, admiration. If the Scouts wanted a role model, a real hero and motivational speaker they should NOT have asked TRUMP. I hope the scouts and scountmasters and parents of scouts are not as “it’s ok” as you are.

While the nation and the world watched. Now, a don’t for you……don’t tell others how they should react. You choose your position, to defend trump and you look in your mirror and tell yourself you chose the correct action. I have to look myself in the eye in every mirror and I must react on the basis of my values and world view. The president used the BSA leadership and membership yesterday to carry out a corrupt mission, while calling our government a cesspool. He is a bizarre predator and that is what this is all about. If anyone feels the urge to bring up Nazi or homosexual issues then so be it. At this particular time that is our right as it is yours to defend the trumpty dumpty who dove off of his ledge yesterday and whose minions just put him back together again. Any parent who takes the position of being offended and appalled has my support. As for those who pretend this was an honor……I wish you well with your delusion.

I agree that in every other instance, with every other president, it was inspirational for Boy Scouts to see the President, whether the Scouts were on the same side of the aisle or not. I’m sure they were very excited to see President Trump. Which makes his handling of the situation – the only president in the history of talking to BSA to be blatantly partisan and to basically break half of the Boy Scout laws during his speech – all the worse.
I have not spoken to any boys about this yet, but I have spoken to several leaders – men who have devoted decades of their lives to boys well after their own have grown. Men who are the epitome of service and honor. They come from many different backgrounds and political points of view, but all were saddened or horrified by the remarks at this event.

What would I say to the Boy Scouts? Well, since you asked, I’d tell them to end their discrimination against gays – for real this time. Yeah, yeah, I know, they did (for scouts in 2013 and for leaders in 2015), but there are still exemptions based on “religious beliefs”, so individual troops can still discriminate to their hearts’ content. Sure, if you’re gay in Oak Park, Illinois, you can now be a Boy Scout and even a leader. Bully for you. But if you’re gay in Owen County, Indiana? Well, better luck next life. Until the BSA makes a blanket statement of inclusion (as the Girl Scouts do, incidentally), rather than just well, we don’t really exclude (uncross fingers here), then the organization is still bigoted.
As for what Trump actually said, who cares? What was anyone expecting him to say? What genius allowed him the opportunity anyway?

An interesting lesson from history: Hans Scholl, who was summarily executed with his sister and his best friends from the university in Munich for their resistance activities against the Nazis, was drawn to the Nazi movement as a youth. He was active and a leader in his local chapter of the German Boy Scouts. His opposition and resistance to the Nazis grew out of his resentment over the Hitler Youth’s absorption of the Boy Scouts. He was even detained and served time in a youth jail for his open opposition to the Gleichschaltung of the Boy Scouts into the Hitler Youth. After he was released, he continued to try to keep his troop together outside of the Hitler Youth.
Let us hope that future leaders of the resistance against American fascism will someday point to our Dear Leader’s “speech” in West Virginia as the inspiration and motivation to their activities to restore respect for constitutional principles, decency and civic virtue to our nation. Perhaps he has sown the seeds of his movement’s demise.

Has anyone actually listened to the speech? I heard parts of it on the radio and did not find his words objectionable. I do not believe anything that comes from the media these days so I probably would not trust a written text. The media has its own agenda.
Thank you for all the kind comments—-not. Generally I do not return to read the rants because I expect to be vilified. I was a Cub Scout leader and assistant scoutmaster and committee chair and had my share of the” battle ribbons” My eagle scout son took his own son out of BS of which he was a leader because he could not handle the course the organization had chosen to take. The sustained cheers that I heard on the radio indicated that the president was very popular among the boys. Yes, the tapes could have been doctored—but you have to believe sometimes. How much he financially supports the organization is immaterial…the United Way, public schools and some churches will not support the Boy Scouts in many places in this country. Baden-Powell would not recognize the Boy Scouts of today
.

What goals do you want him to achieve? Ex: expulsion of immigrants entails the breaking up of families and deporting many innocents who have lived in the US for years; repeal of Obamacare means millions with no insurance; loosening of gun control means more guns and more killings; deregulation of corporate restrictions means society being controlled by companies who want to get more for themselves; dirtying of our water and air due to dismantling of the EPA; militarism of the police departments means more killing; vilification of Muslims; increase in military spending which necessitates the cutting of societal safety networks; etc.
I’m sure you could list other achievements he wants to accomplish. Please list them. If you disagree with the list I’ve made, please make your own. I’d like to know what he can do to help this country since what he has achieved so far is an increase in hate crimes. April, you seem very unprepared to engage in conversation here. You ask if “anyone” has even seen the speech and connect that with yourself having only listened to parts of it on radio. Then you remark that what we (? you?) saw may be “doctored”? Folks who comment here tend to engage in reality and have some concept of what they are talking about. I suggest that you find some coverage of the speech that you trust to be legitimate and not part of media “agenda” and view it. Then, actually think about what you saw and heard. Go to the BSA websites and see what they posted. Read some newspaper coverage. Once you have a better grasp of what took place then reengage without making accusations that others don’t have adequate information, aren’t giving trump a chance and lack faith. If you are looking for kind words in response to your admonishment and false claims then this is not the forum. Topics here are about the real world and contributions should have some connection to actual events. It’s not clear to me why you generally don’t return to read rants or be vilified. Perhaps this is indication that you post views that tend to incite others to rant or vilify? If that happens so frequently that you now have tendencies with the occurence perhaps there is something you are saying that induces the “rants” and “vilification”. If you have a habit of going into a conversation and telling others what perspective they should convey and how they should engage with media or give someone chances there could be a connection. Addressing well informed adults as if they are clueless children whose sources are bogus may be a factor in being the recipient of rants and vilification. Maybe.

Girl Scouts Obtain Restraining Order Against Trump
By Andy Borowitz, The New Yorker
25 July 17
The article below is satire. Andy Borowitz is an American comedian and New York Times-bestselling author who satirizes the news for his column, “The Borowitz Report.”
in an extraordinary rebuke of the President of the United States, the Girl Scouts of the U.S.A. have obtained a restraining order against Donald J. Trump.
The order, which the Girls Scouts were granted on Monday night, prevents Trump from coming within three hundred feet of any gathering of the Scouts’ organization.
Carol Foyler, a Girl Scouts spokesperson, said that while the G.S.U.S.A. sought the restraining order “out of an abundance of caution,” the girls themselves were “in no way, shape or form” afraid of President Trump.
“They’re prepared to deal with bobcats and bears,” she said. “They can handle a malignant narcissist.”
Trump wasted little time responding to the Girl Scouts’ action, lashing out at the organization in a blistering early-morning tweet storm.
“Failing Girl Scouts bad (or sick) guys,” Trump wrote. “Mints, cookies terrible. Sad!”

Trump Says Transgender People Can’t Serve In Military
July 26, 20179:25 AM ET…NPR
“After consultation with my Generals and military experts, please be advised that the United States Government will not accept or allow … Transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the U.S. Military. Our military must be focused on decisive and overwhelming … victory and cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail. Thank you”
Transgender people already serve in the military. It’s not immediately clear how Trump intends to implement the ban, but the Pentagon announced Wednesday it will defer enlistments by transgender applicants…
The move was an acknowledgement of the transgender people already in the military. Carter said RAND researchers estimated that “about 25,000 people out of approximately 825,000 reserve servicemembers are transgender, with the upper end of their range of estimates of around 7,000 in the active component and 4,000 in the reserves.”
Trump’s announcement will likely be seen as running counter to a tweet Trump posted in 2016, in which he thanked the LGBT community. “I will fight for you while Hillary brings in more people that will threaten your freedoms and beliefs,” he pledged.

For starters, Trump wants to rid his administration of the AG he chose. Sessions properly recused himself from the Russia investigation due to his Trump campaign involvement. Manafort, Trump, Jr. and Kushner are testifying on a previously undisclosed meeting with Russians. Doe this look kosher to you?
Secondly, Trump and his AG have implemented immigration and tourist visa policies that are clearly discriminatory in intent.
Lastly, Trump appointed DeVos whose main qualification is being a billionaire wanting to dismantle the public school system brick by brick.
For your benefit, April, I will end my rant here. I will not utter a word about the real possibility of millions Americans losing their health insurance.
