Governor Cuomo and legislative leaders reached a budget agreement.
Everyone patted each other on the back. We will learn the details in the next few days. Many unanswered questions. Did Cuomo gain new power to take over low-performing schools? Who will decide about teacher and principal evaluations? Stay tuned.

“further reducing over-testing”
So there IS over-testing? Hmmm. No longer just “hysteria” from “moms”?

Diane, I know the fine print will come out soon. I’ve read according to one article (don’t have the link) that an “Independent observation” made it into the agreement. My mind cannot contemplate how this is done on a state wide level with the enormous amount of teachers working. Here anything about this? Thoughts? Appreciate it.

Atreegrowsinbrooklyn: the independent evaluator is a truly stupid idea. Why should a teacher be evaluated by a drop by visitor? How many thousands of independent evaluators will be hired? What will it cost? This is nonsense coming from a man who knows nothing about teacher evaluation.

Tax exemptions for yachts and private planes? This might come in handy for transporting my in-laws back and forth to Florida, one day, but on my current teacher salary, I may have to wait awhile:). I’m so very worried about possibly having 50% of my effectiveness rating based on a faulty state test that is written well above the reading levels of averge third graders, but at least I’ll have my running record documentation to plea my case, should i ever need a hearing to protect my career annd show student growth. Then again, maybe i can teach in a country that still respects teachers! Perhaps, that future yacht can steer me across the waters.
