Tim Slekar of Penn State has been watching NBC’s Education Nation, for which we are all grateful. Someone has to do it.
Today he watched the teacher town hall and discovered that a matter that has been settled in research was turned by NBC into a matter of opinion. And whose opinion counted was, in Tim’s view, questionable.

Excellent question.
The more I am involved fighting ed deform, the more I trust opinion. At least you know someone is giving an opinion instead of disguising a lie.

This is what happens when you let amateurs and illiterates dictate education policy —
You get pelted by every old chestnut from the last couple of centuries.

Like Tim said, expressing an opinion based on faulty (invalid) data adds nothing to a debate. There is nothing to debate.

Like you have been saying for a while, people are pushing ideas on the school system to “motivate” teachers to “better performance” that go against all of the latest motivational research that Daniel Pink presents in his book “Drive.” People talk about us having an antiquated education system, yet they are pushing antiquated business ideas onto it now.

Hi again Diane,
Just thought I’d let you know I attended Sunday’s portion of Education Nation’s summit and wrote a synopsis of the event including the Won’t Back Down protest I took part in at the red carpet premier. There’s a couple photos and a video of the parents and teachers who attended I think you might enjoy seeing.
