The National Opportunity to Learn Campaign has one of the very best critiques of Michelle Rhee’s report card for the states. The states doing the least for children get the highest scores. The states enacting policies that ignore the needs of children do best by her logic.
In the 990 form for StudentsFirst, it says the organization defends the interests of children.
The National Opportunity to Learn Campaign says it does not.

Remember when Rhee said education shouldn’t be about the adults…or something to that affect…looks like it is all about the adults now…her wealthy privatizing vultures are her first priority.
She has become exactly what she claimed she was trying to abolish….closing from the linked report:
There are many more problems with StudentsFirst’s state report card, including the infamous “Parent Trigger” and its open disdain for democracy and elected school boards. But the overall picture is clear: for the authors and their right-wing benefactors, ideology trumps proven results. Our students, parents, teachers, and community members deserve better.

Spending 1/3 of your org’s gross income on promotion/advertising can amass a fortune, apparently — with $1.8 mill in assets — undisclosed, and probably nearly all stocks and bonds and other Wall Street goodies… including handy gifties from the Koch Bros…

One of StudentsFirst’s crowning achievements is its consistent deployment of Orwellian language — using a term to mean its opposite.
What they call “elevating the teaching profession” is little more than its wholesale de-professionalization. Removal of workplace protections, evaluation and compensation based on crude productivity metrics, public shaming of those whose metrics drop regardless of reason, competition between teachers for scarce resources – these are the management techniques of a sweatshop assembly line, not methods for promoting excellence in teachers.

StudentsFirst IRS 990’s proves it’s time for 502c “reform!” Michelle Rhee is one of the many ed reform Poverty Pimps on the stroll in urban communities to make a quick and easy buck. Joe and Joanne Citizen might be taken in because she’s not hard on the eye and she is articulate. However, the Frontline Report exposed Rhee for the sociopathic narcissist that she is and I thank them for that.

Pearls of wisdom in these comments! I got a bumper sticker that says, “Teachers are not the problem” thought it was pretty pithy till I read some better slogans for my bumper…”Studentsfirst: Orwellian double talk for “Corporate educational Takeover.”
If only some “news” source would do an expose on how the corporate money mad robber barons are extending their tentacles into every democratic PRIVATE entity,
all the while piping a tune of “concern” and simultaneously enriching their private club and destroying their victims; be it in healthcare, education and unions of every stripe! Stupid wish, right? The bloodless Gecko’s of the world are savvy enough to know that they pay off those who might wreck their dreams of limitless power and money: the press.
