Lisa Desjardins and her colleagues at the PBS Newshour dissect the nature of a Trump speech.
They note the way he encourages violence while later insisting that he did not encourage violence. He plays the victim. He plays the man of deep Christian faith.
The best way to understand his speeches is not through the lens of rationality, but by recognizing that he is a performer.
Currently, he is giving the performance of his life because he needs to get elected so he can dismiss the federal charges against him.
while I agree that he is a performer, I would note that his actions are generally toward the distant right of the political spectrum. This may be because the people he favors are in a position to reward him, but I think he does have values. His values are evidenced by the people he puts into power.
My ex-husband knew Trump and held him in low regard. He told me that Trump has no convictions or beliefs. He does whatever enhances his wealth, power, ego. Everything else is transactional. As shown by his flexibility on abortion. He used to be for it. Now he’s against it. But he’s not entirely against. He wanted a 16-week national ban (abortions before 16 weeks are ok). Then he switched to a 15-week ban. After the Arizona decision banning all abortions (except when mother’s life is at risk), he favors state control. Next week, he may change again.
exactly what Kelly said about him
Trump says whatever is useful to him at the moment. When he was first looking for support among rich Repugnicans for running in 2024, he made a big deal of having appointed the justices who overturned Roe v. Wade, said again and again how he did this and how proud he was of having finally gotten the job done. Then, when it dawned on him that millions of women were pissed and probably wouldn’t vote for him because of what happened with Roe, he suddenly supports abortion until after 15 weeks and in cases of rape or incest or where the woman’s health is at risk.
TRUMP HAS NO MORAL SCRUPLES. He “believes” whatever he finds useful at a given moment. Mr. Ravitch was right. He is entirely transactional. They only thing of interest to him is what’s in it for him. Another way of putting this: he is a psychopath.
Another way of putting it: Trump is a selfish con man whose only value is: “what’s in it for me?”
Well said, Diane!
Trump has values? ROFL. He is the most utterly amoral person in public life. He has all the morality of parasitic wasp larvae. He values praise for Trump, true. But even that he will jettison in a heartbeat if he sees some advantage for himself for doing so. Case in point: Mikey Pence the Dense, the single-most self-abasing, kow-towing, bootlicking, masochistic politician since those who surrounded Stalin. The moment Trump saw a possible advantage in jettisoning Mikey, the Toadie in Chief was toast. Trump literally said, when the mob started chanting, “Hang Mike Pence,” that Pence “deserved it.” Is there anything else that Trump values? Well, money, clearly. And there is also this weird thing that he has about his own daughter. But that’s it, as far as I can tell.

It doesn’t matter who you are…
What part of pretending that the electoral college can transform a KNOWN performer/shyster into a trustworthy holder, of national vulnerabilities, is based on, or in accordance with reason or logic (rationality)?
What part of calling legalized privileges for the few, a democracy, coincides with the quality of being endowed with the capacity to reason?
What part of blaming a Union for YOUR actions, reflects clear thought or reason?
ROFL. The purpose of writing is intelligibility, or should be. So, the gnomic utterances thing doesn’t really work.
And sure, I am responsible for the federal standardized testing mandate. ROFL again!!!! OMG. That’s a good one.
Though here I am in an actual chresmoi. I should be honored, as you should be cognizant of the fact that I am the only one who takes the trouble to try to make sense of these Pythian utterances. I should get credit for that, don’t you think? ROFL.

Traitor Trump’s hush money case in New York starts Monday. Yesterday I read that another one of the Traitor’s appeals was denied to postpone the trial. This will be the traitor’s first criminal case that comes with potential prison time. The guilty verdicts for the rape and fraud cases were civil trials.
Traitor Trump appeals court cases or attempts to get them tossed out almost as much as he lies. Well, not really. He’s lied a lot more than a few court cases that have already cost the Traitor more than half a billion dollars not counting the $100 million in legal fees he’s paid out since leaving the White House.
I’ve read (correct me if I’m wrong but also add how much I’m off from his legal fees) that since he cheats everyone, even his lawyers, he only pays about half of his legal fees and stiffs the lawyers for the rest so the billing for the traitor’s legal fees must have been at least $200 million. The smart lawyers demand to be paid up front before they go to work for his crime family.
Trump learned his lessons well from Roy Cohn. Attack, deny, appeal. Do it again and again until the government gives up.
